Yes, it has been a long time since the last post so figured it is time to get busy! These photos represent yet another casualty of technology... the printed cookbook. 25 years ago, August 14th, I moved up here from downstate not quite knowing what I was going to do. My sister Paula had kids in school and we had been working together publishing cookbooks for churches, schools and individuals. Then we came up with an idea (or I should say she did) to travel the state and collect recipes from northern Michigan restaurants and put together a cookbook that would also somewhat double as a travel guide. It was a huge success far beyond what we could have imagined and we printed the heck out of them... about 20,000 copies over a couple printings. Today, I made a trip to the Bellaire recycling bins, the pickup loaded with unused covers and plastic spines that will end up being something other than a cookbook in the not too distant future. Since Pride of Northern Michigan had its debut in the fall of 1995, next year marks its 25th Anniversary and we may convert the old files over to an e-book. Though many of the restaurants are gone and replaced with big box stores or pharmacies or something way off the wall... many are in the hands of the next generation. It's been a fun and great 25 years so far, look forward to the next 25 (whew!) and never regret making the move to northern Michigan!
