Because this "news" is spreading like wildfire or an infectious disease, let's have a talk about it.
This "breach" is not new. It's a combination of all the beaches this year so far.
The number is startling but rather than going in and changing all your passwords, let's take this as a moment to discuss good cyber hygiene.
Just like how we brush our teeth every day and take showers to clean ourselves, take this news and brush up or clean up your digital credentials - those passwords that we all complain about.
π€ Use strong passwords with a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. The longer, the better.
π« Do not use personal, easily identifiable information - birthdays, anniversaries, pets names in your passwords.
π
ββοΈ Avoid using the same or similar passwords across different accounts - especially sensitive accounts (banking and healthcare - including provider portals and insurance).
π«‘ Set up 2 Factor Authentication (2FA) for accounts you can. This is an extra layer of protection, not just a pain in the rear.
π‘ If you have trouble remembering (let's be real, who doesn't), use a password manager and then add 2FA on that.
π€ If you get a request or link that you weren't expecting, don't click it. Do some research to see if it is legitimate and if it isn't, delete it immediately.
β€οΈ Be a good digital neighbor. If you see something sus from a friend, let them know.
As always, I'm here to help. If you have concerns about your digital presence, reach out.
This is a colossal breach involving 16 billion exposed credentials β possibly the G.O.A.T. of all data breaches.
