At UpClose, we’re proud to partner with nonprofits that uplift our community—this month, we’re excited to feature Developmental Services Center (DSC).

For more than 45 years, Developmental Services Center (DSC) has been a vital part of the Champaign-Urbana community, supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live rich, fulfilling lives. Through residential programs, employment support, life skills training, and family services, DSC empowers individuals to achieve greater independence and become active participants in the community.

Each holiday season, DSC launches its annual Tree of Hope campaign to raise both funds and awareness for the individuals and families they serve. This long-standing tradition helps shine a light on the importance of inclusive support and the impact that a connected community can make.

In addition to Tree of Hope, DSC also organizes a Holiday Wish List to help fulfill gift requests for individuals supported by their programs. It’s a simple way to spread joy while making the season brighter for those who might otherwise go without.

To learn more about Tree of Hope, fulfill a holiday wish, or make a contribution, visit dsc-illinois.org. Your support helps ensure everyone in our community has the opportunity to thrive.

At UpClose, we’re proud to partner with local nonprofits that strengthen our community—this month, we’re excited to feature Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Illinois and their inspiring work empowering youth through mentorship.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Illinois creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. By matching children (“Littles”) with caring adult volunteers (“Bigs”), the organization helps young people build confidence, develop resilience, and realize their full potential. Right now, they are actively recruiting new mentors. Becoming a Big doesn’t require special skills—just a willingness to show up, listen, and be a consistent, positive presence in a child’s life. These relationships make a lasting impact, helping Littles succeed in school, build strong relationships, and plan for brighter futures.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is also participating in the Campus Charitable Fund Drive (CCFD) this fall. University of Illinois employees can choose to support BBBS through payroll deduction or one-time gifts, directly helping to fund mentoring programs that serve youth throughout Central Illinois.
