⏳ The longer you wait for the “perfect” candidate, the more your team and your bottom line pay the price.
I learned this firsthand. Our team was overwhelmed, and burnout was setting in fast. Leadership gave us three resumes to review, and on paper they all looked impressive. But interviews told a different story. Two candidates could not back up their resumes with real answers. The third did not even turn on his camera, but he showed potential and seemed like a better fit.
We had a choice. Keep searching for the elusive “unicorn” and risk weeks of delay, or move forward with someone who could step in and help right away. We chose to act. It turned out to be the right call. He excelled, brought creativity, and strengthened our team in ways we did not expect.
That experience also reminded me of something important. Today’s professionals, especially those with 10+ years of experience and strong track records, may not check every single box on a hiring manager’s wish list. But they are more than capable of learning platforms and processes quickly. There will always be a learning curve, no matter how many tools someone already knows. What matters most is adaptability, creativity, and commitment to growth.
The truth is, waiting for perfect can be costly. Every week a marketing role goes unfilled means heavier workloads, slipping deadlines, missed opportunities, and real financial loss. Studies show vacancies cost businesses an average of $25,000 per month in lost revenue, and the impact on marketing is often even greater.
