One thing that stood out after learning more about Palmetto Bone & Joint’s Irmo location is the range of options available for people who want to get back to moving comfortably.

Orthopedic care doesn’t automatically mean surgery. The practice treats problems involving the hips, knees, shoulders, spine, hands, wrists, feet, and ankles, along with sports-related injuries. Depending on the condition, patients may have access to conservative treatments, rehabilitation, regenerative medicine options, or advanced surgical care when it’s needed.

That breadth of expertise can be especially helpful when pain has lingered for months or an old injury suddenly starts limiting work, exercise, hobbies, or simple day-to-day movement. Patients can begin by finding out what’s actually causing the problem and then discuss the treatment options that make sense for their situation.

For Irmo-area residents who have been putting off getting an aching joint or stubborn injury checked out, Palmetto Bone and Joint - Irmo is a convenient local place to start.

The Irmo Police Department officially swore in two new K9 members, K-9 Andi and K-9 Venom, at a Town Council meeting on Tuesday.

K-9 Andi is a 16-month-old Belgian Malinois. She was bred in the United States and was originally selected for sport and competition.

K-9 Venom is a German Shepherd Belgian Malinois mix, commonly known as a “Mal X,” who will turn two in September. Venom came to the Irmo Police Department from Costa Rica.

Both Andi and Venom have been certified through the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association in narcotics detection and tracking.

Cpl. Ken Neivel is the K9 handler for Venom, and Cpl. Richand “JP” Piskura is the K9 handler for Andi.

Officials say both officers were selected because of their passion and interest in working with K9s to expand law enforcement resources for the town.

The officers attended training at Arete Canine, where they completed their certifications for narcotics detection and tracking.
