Downtown Charleston is evolving. It always has.

Growth is part of a thriving city. New investment. New development. New energy. And the small businesses who built this city’s character matter just as much.

Today’s front-page story in The Post and Courier features our client, Charleston Candle Co., in a larger conversation about what thoughtful growth looks like in Charleston. Small businesses are not anti-growth. They are advocating for balance. For development that creates opportunity while preserving the culture, creativity, and community that made downtown magnetic in the first place.

Charleston Candle Co. is more than a storefront. It is local manufacturing. Local jobs. A founder-led brand rooted right here.

The strongest cities make room for both. Cranes and candle makers. Developers and dreamers.

We are proud to help tell stories that support growth and protect the people building it.

Community is currency. Always.

The Emanuel Nine Memorial will honor the 5 survivors and remember the lives and legacies of the 9 who lost their lives at Mother Emanuel Church. Each name etched here represents a life full of love, faith, and courage, and a story that continues to touch the hearts of our community. Their memory reminds us of the importance of love and the enduring strength of those left behind.

This memorial stands as a testament to resilience, unity, and the transformative power of grace, a force that sustains through adversity, inspires personal change, teaches resilience, and empowers individuals to act with integrity and strength.

Now, the memorial is a special place to reflect on the work still needed in the ongoing pursuit of justice, equality, and understanding. In honoring the Emanuel Nine, we also honor the countless individuals who continue to fight for a world free from violence and discrimination.

We are proud to support this sacred space, helping ensure that their stories remain alive, resonating compassion and inspiration for generations to come. May this memorial not only remind us of the past but also guide us toward a future built on empathy and courage.

When these two best friends booked a trip to Turkey, they weren't expecting to build a globally loved brand, but that’s exactly how Zuma began.

Founded in 2015 by friends Elyse and Zu, Zuma has become a brand immersed in generations of textile traditions and antique craftsmanship. These ladies were inspired to bring these timeless pieces to the United States and build a brand rooted in culture, connection, and thoughtful design.

Every piece is personally sourced by Elyse and Zu through long-standing relationships with artisan communities. They are committed to the culture and creative traditions that inspire their work while collaborating directly with artisans throughout Turkey. Zuma prioritizes fair trade practices and empowering women through sustainable, ethical partnerships that preserve centuries-old techniques.

It doesn't get much better than that

Along the banks of the Edisto River, Edisto Gold Honey was born.

In 2019, Mark Connelly, a lifelong beekeeper and a full-time firefighter, founded EGH, which produces raw, unfiltered honey that reflects the rich flavor of the Lowcountry and the dedication of the bees who call it home!

Mark began beekeeping at 16 when his mother inherited four hives in North Carolina, and his lifelong connection to bees, combined with his leadership skills from The Citadel, has shaped every jar of honey he produces.

EGH bees create what they proudly call "Lowcountry Liquid Gold". Their collection of classic and infused honeys is crafted with care, offering flavors that celebrate both nature and community, while also being thoughtfully sourced.

Through sustainable practices and local partnerships, they continue to honor South Carolina’s agricultural roots while building a sweeter future for generations to come. This year, EGH is expanding into new markets and bringing its signature flavors to more states and more tables than ever before. Recently featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Edisto Gold Honey is earning recognition far beyond the Lowcountry.

Sweet proof of Mark's passion and craftsmanship!

We’re excited to partner with the team behind Millers All Day on their newest concept, Jimmy Rosso — a neighborhood-driven pizza restaurant coming to Mount Pleasant in Summer 2026. 🍕

Jimmy Rosso is built on research, restraint, and a deep respect for process. As part of their development, the team spent time in Brooklyn studying the mechanics behind great pizza — not to replicate a specific style, but to better understand the discipline, consistency, and culture that support it. The result is a thoughtful approach to thin, lighter-crust, large-format pies designed for balance and repeat visits.

Behind the scenes, the concept reflects a high level of intention. Jimmy Rosso will utilize a New York Water Maker system, engineering water to mirror New York City’s mineral profile and pH, alongside a PizzaMaster deck oven, equipment commonly used in New York pizzerias. These choices aren’t about spectacle — they’re about precision, reliability, and honoring technique.

The name itself is a quiet nod to heritage and long-standing partnership. Jimmy Rosso translates to “Jimmy Reds,” referencing Jimmy Red Corn grown by Marsh Hen Mill — a collaborator across the group’s broader portfolio. It’s not a theme or a gimmick, but a philosophy rooted in ingredients, process, and place.

Designed to feel nostalgic without being kitschy and polished without being precious, Jimmy Rosso is meant to be a true neighborhood spot — familiar, welcoming, and built to earn loyalty over time.

We’re grateful to work alongside operators who approach hospitality with curiosity, care, and clarity — and to help support concepts that grow thoughtfully and intentionally. More to come as Jimmy Rosso takes shape. 🤍🍕

We have some good news and bad news.

The bad news: Sushi Bar Charleston is already booked through December. Every seat at the twelve-seat omakase counter is spoken for before doors even open. Charleston showed up fast (shocker), but if you were hoping to slip in before the end of the year, you’re out of luck.

Now for the good news…
Bellerose opens its reservation books on December 17.

Bellerose is Sushi Bar’s sister concept next door — both under one roof at 158 Church Street — and led by the same culinary vision from two-Michelin-starred Chef Anthony Martin.

It’s a nine-table modern steakhouse inspired by the great hotel bars of Paris and New York. Warm, intimate, beautifully lit, and designed for longer evenings: premium cuts, thoughtful sides, a polished bar program, and a room that feels instantly timeless.

Our team at Wawner Strategies is leading the Charleston communications strategy for both concepts, and the early momentum has been remarkable to watch.

More to come as photography drops and opening week unfolds.
