Events are such a labor of love ๐Ÿฉท The amount of coordination, detail and resources it takes to successfully throw any event is astonishing, but when it's the first year and you're launching a new idea...it takes double the work to get people excited and motivated to come out.

Congratulations to my friend on her inaugural event last night!

So many women from all over the Lowcountry showed up to the Goddess Gala in pink and pearls to dance the night away and support a non-profit organization that is providing resources for victims of intimate partner violence across Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley Counties (My Sister's House).

The Alcove is unique because it brings together 4 organizations ( and .the.change.charleston.sc ) under one roof - becoming North Charleston's newest disability-focused inclusive environment.

#4 is likely one you havenโ€™t heard.ย 

As small business owners, we have limited resources (budgets, time and staff) - which means choosing to spend $1 dollar on ONE marketing initiative (letโ€™s say FACEBOOK ADS) means we are taking away the opportunity to spend that $1 dollar on another marketing initiative (perhaps GOOGLE ADS).ย 

Our goal as a small business owner is to choose our marketing efforts wisely.ย 

That $1 dollar may bring in MORE sales using Google Ads vs. Facebook Ads.ย 

Keeping โ€˜opportunity costโ€™ in mind means we understand weโ€™re trying to maximize our efforts with the limited resources we have.ย 

And guess whatโ€ฆ #3 on my list (tracking your marketing efforts) is absolutely necessary so that you can compare. Thatโ€™s the only way youโ€™re going to feel confident about deciding which to keep and which to drop.

๐Ÿช™ It tells you whether your posts are resonating with your audience and motivating them to buy

** a follower count of 2,500 with a 25% conversion rate [625 followers buying from me] > a follower count of 50,000 with a 1% conversion rate [500 followers buying from me]

๐Ÿช™ It is a good indicator of whether you're attracting the RIGHT people to your business profile.

** virality can be a blessing and a curse! it can flood your business profile with people who have zero interest in the products or services you sell, which can later lead to lower engagement

๐Ÿช™ It can point to opportunities in your messaging.

** low conversion rate? you may need to focus on improving the content and messaging you're using/posting

๐Ÿช™ It directly ties your efforts to your bank account.

** there are benefits to growing your follower count, but ultimately your conversion rate is the only metric that shows you what kind of a financial return you're getting from using social media as a marketing initiative

It's 2016. Faceswap was a thing...the creepiest of trends if you ask me [check out my very last photo].

Blazers and heels were still a part of my everyday attire, my husband was in Kuwait and I took the 20 hour trek โœˆ๏ธ to see him, we found the perfect lakeside lot and built a home, I needed an outlet and started painting. Chelsea graduated high school and we moved her into college. My family and friends were my lifeline.

What you can't see in these photos...my growing unrest. I wouldn't start my business until 2017 and wouldn't post my first YouTube video until June 2017.

The "art" and painting was my first inclination that I needed "more" than my full-time corporate job in healthcare marketing. And it wasn't until I allowed myself to be playful and create [bad] art that I could even entertain the idea of owning my own small business.

Follow the "breadcrumbs" -- if you feel drawn towards a new hobby or interest, you owe it to yourself to explore it...who knows where you'll end up ๐Ÿฉท

The sole reason Iโ€™ve been able to post over 250 videos on YouTube, grow my email list to over 1,200 subscribers and release more than 140 episodes on a podcast that I co-host with my sisterโ€ฆ repetition and consistency.ย ย 

๐Ÿšซ Showing up once, or even a few times wonโ€™t move the needle.ย 

Why? Because those potential customers youโ€™re looking to attract with your contentโ€ฆwelp, theyโ€™re bombarded with thousands of marketing messages every day. (Think about how overwhelming Instagram feels these days.)

Repetition helps to break through that noise and consistency builds recognitionโ€ฆrecognition then builds trust.ย 

Yes, it feels heavy and hard at first - but, I promise youโ€ฆhalf the battle is training YOURSELF to show up consistently.ย ๐Ÿ’ช
