Last night at Northwest Missouri State University was an incredible way to wrap up this week’s tour with Dr. Frank Turek.
Close to 500 people packed the room to hear the evidence for Christianity, followed by more than an hour and a half of student Q&A. The questions went deep, with discussions around morality, Catholicism, politics, and some genuinely challenging topics. We also had a great audience joining us online.
Behind the scenes, this one tested our preparation.
The university had fast Ethernet, but a recent hardware change was causing the connection to glitch about every five minutes. That’s a huge problem when you’re responsible for a 3+ hour livestream.
After troubleshooting, I determined the connection wasn’t stable enough to trust, so it was time for the backup.
For more than a year, I’ve carried a Starlink system to every livestream for exactly this situation. The kit also includes 400 feet of fiber optic cable and Ethernet converters, allowing me to put Starlink outside with a clear view of the sky and run a hardwired connection all the way back to our production setup.
Last night was the first time I actually needed it.
We got a solid connection and successfully streamed the entire 3+ hour event. We had a few brief buffers during satellite handoffs, but the stream stayed up and the online audience was able to experience the event.
Live production doesn’t give you a second take. Redundancy matters.
Great crowd. Great questions. Great week on the road.
Now I’m ready to get back to the Carolinas and see the family!
