We’ve been gone for a month.
Now that we’ve (mostly) settled into our place here in Charlotte, I’m processing and reflecting more.
Before we left Charlottesville a few people asked what I'd miss the most, and I think my answer across the board was the community.
✨It's actually kind of wild how communities build, and you might agree:
You are in the same space with someone. You share words about something, they share words about something. Usually personal or relatable. Both vibe with each other? A bond forms 🫶🏽
The bond seeps out and attracts another person, and then another, and all of a sudden you have this natural feeling of fellowship that, if it works out, spans across many years (but if not, that's natural too).
While I feel like I’m grieving a loss, it’s not all sadness!
😌 It’s also: a deep sense of gratitude and knowing that woah. THIS is how humans long to be. In community. Building s**t. Being real with one another. Actually caring about each other. Seeing how you can change the place you live in for the better, even if it feels like a drop in the ocean 💧
If you're still reading this and you're a local small business owner, I hope this offers some encouragement to you to keep showing up on social media, in your emails, and in whatever marketing space you're showing up in.
Because you're local, you have a unique ability to be a bridge between individuals, friends, and families...so that you can build and contribute to a community of people who actually care about the thing you're trying to do.
Yes, sell things (we all need to make a living!), AND ALSO give people joy, educate on XYZ, inspire passion about this or that, offer a place to escape, etc...*insert your values here*
You don't have to be fancy or stay on top of aLl ThE tReNdS as you're trying to grow here on Instagram. You can simply share things about yourself and your business with someone (like, HAVE CONVERSATIONS), allow them to share something back, and make room for the inevitable relationship that builds.
Drop a YES if you can get behind using this platform to have more real conversations ❤️
