We heard that social media groups had lost a sense of security for many to feel comfortable sharing their opinions. Trolling forced many to leave the groups they once thought they belonged in.

This need for safety and security while still longing for a place of belonging led us to create our shared values.

Lupus is a journey 💜

Affecting at least 1.5 million Americans, Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and pain in any part of the body, according to the Lupus Foundation of America. 

90% of people living with Lupus are women and the disease disproportionately affects Black women 2-3 times more than it does any other race and s*x.

From fatigue and hair loss to rashes and debilitating pain, the effects of the disease can be devastating and life-altering.

We spoke with three Black women on how they navigate the unpredictable disease, how they were diagnosed, and tips for living with it. Read the full article by clicking the link in our bio.

Sis, the sun doesn't discriminate.

You're outside and need to be protecting that beautiful melanated skin. There's a misconception in the Black community that we don't need to wear sunscreen. Dr. Tiffany Clay, Board Certified Dermatologist based in Atlanta, , lets us know in this article that no one is immune from skin cancer.

Sunscreen is the easiest way to stay protected from harmful UV rays. Dr. Clay recommends an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen every single day on your face, neck, and the areas that are typically going to see the sun.

Every young Black person can recall their parents saying "go to college and you'll get a good job."

They failed to mention how a toxic work environment can impact your mental health.

While work PTSD is real, it's not normal. It's normal to feel overwhelmed and stressed when you have new responsibilities. However, if you're experiencing persistent symptoms, it may be time to seek help from a mental health professional.

Here are some tips to keep stress and anxiety at bay when starting a new job, provided by guest contributor, Caeriña Carbonell, .c :

📌 Ask the right questions when interviewing for new jobs
You are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you.

📌 Be the change you want to see
If you're ever in a managerial position, remember how you wanted to be treated by a previous manager.

📌 Document recurring incidents
When you get to the point where you need to speak to your manager about how the toxic work environment is impacting your mental health, bring the receipts.

📌 Talk to a therapist or your co-workers
An unbiased conversation about your frustrations and thoughts will help ease your mind.

📌 Leave
Always put yourself first if your company is not catering to your mental health needs.
