🇺🇲A Salute to Merril Brother of the 87th Infantry Division

Merril Brother served in the 345th Infantry Regiment of the 87th Infantry Division from April 1944 to July 1945. His unit entered Europe at Le Havre France and battled from Metz, Saar Valley, , Luxembough, Ardennes Forest, Bastogne, Setz (Siegfried Line), Koblenz, and on to Falkenstein. He earned his Combat Infantryman's badge along with several other awards.

Merril was Born in Essex Ontario Canada in May 1914, deported five times from America, then gained his citizenship. He and his wife Helen Anderson married September 1933 and moved to Alpena Michigan where they started their family. They had two daughters before the war and a daughter along with a son after the war. Merril only had a ninth grade education, so he worked as a high school custodian, a bus driver, and a laborer at the Alpena Cement Plant until he retired in 1979. He had several horses on his small property and enjoyed riding and raising them. His main passion was his family and worshiping the Good Lord. He would teach his grandson many carpentry skills. Merril passed away on April 18 1982 at the age of 68. Lest We Forget.
