Have you heard?
Contrary to popular belief, whether print or digital, business cards are still in, and having both options is convenient for tech-savvy and non-tech-savvy customers.
So If you aren’t seeing immediate results from handing out your business cards, you may be making these two common mistakes
Not ❌ Being ❌ Strategic
Not ❌ Being ❌ Personable
So let’s fix that. Here’s a task list that may improve your chances of a follow-up.
1️⃣ For a networking event (print and digital):
✅ Research where you are going
✅ Analyze the target audience of the event and compare it to yours
🔔 Notes: Check the actual attendee list if available
🔔 Remember: If it doesn’t align, don’t waste your time!
🔔 Optional: If you’re an introvert, try to connect with them on Social Media to build rapport beforehand.
✅ When you arrive, prioritize your interactions with your target audience and your “competitors.”
🔔 Remember: Your competitors are not your enemies, they are your friends. You both share a similar goal with similar interests leading to a need for similar contacts and experiences, which you can strategically share at your discretion.
2️⃣ For street-team marketing/ at physical locations (print):
✅ Research where you are going
✅ Analyze the target audience of the location and compare it to yours.
🔔 Remember: If it doesn’t align, don’t waste your time!
✅ When you get there, try to speak to the manager or someone that interacts with the customers the most. This way you can build rapport and receive referrals through word-of-the-mouth marketing, otherwise, your card is just another random card in the stack of cards that are most likely already there.
🔔 Optional: if you’re an introvert, try an icebreaker or two before stating your true purpose.
