The historic transformation of Grand Place keeps getting better! 🥳
Following our Tria Health photoshoot in November 2024, we returned to capture the newly-installed marquee smokestack sign lighting up the KC skyline in November 2025. Designed with our original client Generator Studio, engineered by PMA Engineering, and fabricated by Midwest Sign Company, the new sign is a bold visual marker for the ongoing redevelopment of the former Kansas City Star building. As new tenants and energy continue to fill this iconic space, it’s exciting to cement another chapter in the evolution of this historic property. 🙌

Big project. 🏗️ Big team. 👷‍♂️ Big impact!! 🤩

The Oppidan Data Center in Olathe, KS was already on our 2025 photo list thanks to our longtime client Enterprise Precast Concrete (EPCI) — our longest-running partner. Then The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company reached out to see if we could support the project as well, and ultimately, the collaboration expanded to serve 5 clients with dynamic imagery:

• The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company (GC)

• Salas O'Brien (architect – Topeka team)

• Enterprise Precast Concrete (precast)

• Doherty Steel (precast erector)

• AltusGroup - Precast innovation powered by collaboration (precast trade organization)

To capture the scale of this facility, the pole tripod was set up for higher-elevation shots around the entire perimeter of the building—giving the project that larger-than-life perspective it deserves. Lots of Photoshop cleanup helped polish the final images - from the normal asphalt, curbs, and rocks, to a car parked in front of the building and another visible in the window reflection, removing distracting elements to showcase the design, and much more. One reason the building looks so dynamic is because the City of Olathe required a higher end level of aesthetics due to the data center building being so near to a residential neighborhood - and it sure delivers.

Congratulations to EPCI and Oppidan on earning a 2026 Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) Design Award in the highly competitive Data Center category!

💫 🏆 Congratulations to Amethyst Place on winning the Community Impact Award at last night’s Kansas City Business Journal Capstone Awards!

We were honored to photograph this meaningful project in Kansas City for Rosemann & Associates; other project partners included Rau Construction Company, Sunflower Development Group, LLC Group and Landworks Studio, Inc. Capturing the children running across the playground at dusk was one of our favorite moments — adding in a colorful sunset sky created powerful imagery meant to reflect hope, a brighter future, and new beginnings.

While Rosemann commissioned 11 total images, Amethyst Place had needs for other images (of vacant units, donor wall, etc.), so we created them for them pro bono as part of our commitment to giving back to projects that make a real difference in our community. đź’ś

Shoutout to the incredible team behind this project, including
Sarah Knopf-Amelung, Jason Osborne, David Hendrikse, Emily Clements, Maggie Brennan and Scott Rosemann, PE, F.SEI, LEED AP.

This past fall I had the opportunity to document the new Kansas Department of Health and Environment Laboratory in Topeka, KS for Clark & Enerson (architect), McCownGordon Construction (GC) and Doherty Steel (structural steel contractor).

Our focus was on capturing the new interior murals and a wide range of exterior imagery. Clark & Enersen had requested street life in the exterior shots, and we got lucky with a biker, a person on a scooter, several pedestrians, and of course, I appeared in a few shots myself, setting up the camera from across the busy street on a timer. It’s always entertaining when drivers waiting in traffic are trying to figure out what in the world the photographer is doing! We were fortunate that it was a beautiful day with a deep blue sky, which always makes the images pop.

Like all architecture shoots, there were many hours of detailed Photoshop work behind the scenes—cleaning up streets, fixing grass, removing long shadows from the bus stop, erasing erroneous items from window reflections, then overall refining the final compositions and making all individual images complement each other as a collection. Most of that work is invisible to the client, but comparing the before-and-afters always shows a powerful transformation.

KDHE's $73 million state-of-the-art 100,000 SF facility was completed in March 2025 and replaced their old, outdated facility. Today it employs 85 people and provides over 1 million clinical and environmental tests annually. The project reflects an impressive level of planning and efficiency, and we are so proud to help document our clients' hard work. Congrats to all involved!

💫 Women in Construction Week feels like the perfect time to reflect on a journey I never planned — but am incredibly grateful for every day.

About 10 years ago, I fell into construction photography (and marketing overall) while working with Neighbors Construction on to document the restoration of the Kansas City Power & Light Building and the construction of Power & Light North, both to be known as Power & Light Apartments. What started as an opportunity quickly turned into discovering an entire area of photography I had never even considered: documenting the people, projects, and progress that shape our built environment.

A decade later, I still work for Neighbors Construction part-time, handling all of their marketing initiatives, and this experience opened doors I never imagined and led to working with amazing companies across the industry. I also had the pleasure of working with Doherty Steel over a 3+ year period, capturing dynamic images of structural steel and precast er****on to help showcase their brand in a new website, social media, corporate artwork, and much more.

Other clients I have worked with for photography include Goodwin Brothers, Centric, Enterprise Precast Concrete, Enerfab, Inc., Century Building Solutions, BSM Wall Systems, Rose Design Build, Inc., KBS Constructors and ALTUS GROUP.

Every time I am on a site, I am truly amazed. Construction is more than job sites and structures — it’s teamwork, craftsmanship, innovation, and pride. Getting to tell those stories through photography is something I truly love. I feel incredibly blessed and thankful to work in an industry that welcomes creativity, values relationships, and builds communities in such tangible ways. Every project, every early morning shoot, and every hard-hat moment reminds me why I love what I do.

👷‍♀️ Happy Women in Construction Week to all the talented women building, leading, designing, managing, creating, and supporting this industry every day. You inspire me constantly!

Honored to see our images shot for Universal Construction Company made it onto the cover & inside a fantastic feature article in The Builders AGCs 'Modern Builder Magazine' Summer 2025 Issue!

It was a joy to capture Metropolitan Community College - Maple Woods campus's new Agriculture Annex, an apx 9500 SF facility with classrooms & a 2100 SF connected greenhouse, designed by Clark & Enersen.

Every shoot is unique, and in this one, it was a delight to stage the animals in the classroom and meet some day old baby chicks. The greenhouse required a slower shutter speed to show the fan spinning and extra editing on the floor to clear some leaves, water spots, etc. The exterior cover shot was captured with the Manfrotto pole tripod, which capturing from a higher elevation lends grandeur to every project; it appears to be from a drone, but it's from a full-frame DSLR at 50 Megapixels resulting in superior quality than a drone.

Thank you to Zak Smith for working with Arch Photo KC on our 4th project together, and the custom page he created and mailed with the magazine was such a special touch.

It is a true joy seeing clients' project images featured in important industry publications!

What an amazing article in the Kansas City Business Journal by Sydnie Savage showcasing Shamrock Trading Corporation's beautiful new Tower 2 in Overland Park, Kansas!
https://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/news/2025/07/07/shamrock-trading-overland-park-office-metcalf-ave.html

It has been a proud honor to capture this project for Shamrock Trading Corporation, Bell/Knott & Associates, JE Dunn Construction, John A. Marshall Company, FNL Finishes, Tuohy Furniture Corporation, Gibbens Drake Scott Inc. & more to come.

Many thanks to all clients on Tower 2, and we also had the great pleasure of capturing Tower 1 in 2020.

The building is simply stunning and all of the images are works of art! The amenities, the finishes, the furniture - everything is top notch and sophisticated. While some images do take 3 hours to completely edit to perfection, the long hours are always worth it in the results. Our clients do the real hard work; we love helping them show it off!

It was a great pleasure and surprise to see our client Austin Sandridge with Luminous Lighting KC recently at Contractors, Closers & Connections (CCC) of Kansas City!

Thanks to CCC's amazing Holiday event, we originally made the connection with Luminous Lighting last December, which soon led to this assignment in capturing their exterior illumination work at a Lee's Summit residence. It was a frigid evening but you can't tell by the end result in the photos!

We were informed one of the images was going on his new van, so we went all out in the editing and replaced the average-looking dusk sky with a beautiful sunset. Check out the Before & After! One of the images looked best the other way from left to right so we provided 2 mirror images of the same signature shot, and the mirror image appeared on the van.

Austin also made a "mean" pulled pork for the event and he sent a big tray home with us - thank you, Austin! It was fun to take our photo next to the van, and today we noticed one of the images is now the landing page at https://www.luminous-kc.com/. Check them out!

Congrats to Universal Construction on the completion of Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods's new Agriculture Annex!

It's a really sharp looking project with a thoughtful design. The facility features a 2,100 SF greenhouse, a lecture hall, multipurpose space, and a laboratory classroom.

This was our first greenhouse we've ever shot and the flowers were so lovely. It was fun to stage the classroom with the animals and to meet 1 day old baby chicks!

Many thanks to Zak Smith for being so fun to work with. This was our 4th photoshoot for Universal Construction and we look forward to the next. Cheers to continued success!

Congratulations to Enterprise Precast Concrete for their recognition with the PCI Midwest Award in Education K-12 for the Boys Town Education Center!

Located in Boys Town near Omaha, Nebraska, the building was a joy to capture with its unique graphic concrete panels, mosaic wall panels, and panels with varying depths and finishes including brick and granite.

The showstopper is the amazing Graphic Concrete 16 x 30' mural depicting a montage of historic photos which celebrates the long-standing legacy of Boys Town and will inspire students for years to come.

It was a delight to hear the project was recognized and later seeing so many of our images utilized in PCI Midwest's Ascent Magazine Awards issue! The project was included in the cover page spread, the table of contents, the awards summary page, plus a full 2-page write up with in-depth information about the project.

Here are a few screenshots from the magazine and a few other different angles that we like best. See the project profile at:

Congratulations to Tria Health on their recognition with a Kansas City Business Journal 2025 Capstone Real Estate Award in the Office category!

We were proud to license these images to Tria Health, which were originally commissioned by the talented group at Generator Studio and we also had the pleasure of licensing images to PMA Engineering as well. Other parties involved are 3D Development & Complete Property Solutions Corp.

To summarize KCBJ's article linked below:
"Tria Health is the first office tenant attached to Grand Place in Downtown Kansas City. The redevelopment of the original Kansas City Star newspaper building creates a space that meets the functional needs of a health care provider while honoring the building’s rich architectural heritage.

The office design balances maximizing natural light and maintaining a strong connection to the outdoors while ensuring privacy and HIPAA compliance through strategic acoustical separation.

Tria’s new office amplifies and celebrates the building’s historic reuse, with exposed brick and steel paired with fixtures created using machinery parts from the original print rooms. The expansive break room is accented with copper pipes affixed to the countertop bases and light fixtures with shades created from old turbines."

We're sharing 4 Before & Afters because the transformations were very drastic, especially when you have to balance the view outdoors with the interior space. It takes hours to make some images perfect, but it's so fulfilling in the end. And then, when witnessing clients beng recognized with top industry awards in-person at the elegant awards ceremony, it's one of the proudest moments in this profession!

"It's all in the photos!" But, our clients do the true hard work; we just get to help show it off when it's done. Congrats to all!
