Rest looks different these days. Taking personal days from work to get a massage, grab a donut, and most importantly get st0ned in the park🤣😭

In a moment where the world feels so heavy, it can be hard to sit with ourselves. I find such stillness and restoration in these tiny little rewards. Sometimes I need to remember I’m not needed - there is no such thing as an “urgent” request from work. My presence is resistance.

With the chaos around the world, I want to empower us all to take charge. But we also need to rest in order to push back on the systems that oppress many. I’ve often felt hypocritical posting fun things to do in Chicago. But without ideas for joy, we can get lost in the hurt that is this world. This page is evolving to embrace resistance and the beauty that we work to protect and innovate here in Chicago💜 Safe Haven in the City is a love letter to the city that refined, embraced, and protected me. Now I’m embracing it, working to dismantle systems that haven’t been inclusive or embraced us all. I’m glad you’re here on this ride with me :)

Today is a day to celebrate so support local black owned businesses! Check the caption for great resources (and check out this great non Profit while you’re at it!)

Juneteenth also known as "Freedom Day," is a day to focus on the emancipation of slaves in the United States, serving as a reminder it took a Civil War to legally end slavery in this country. It is also a reminder of Black economical empowerment. Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free: two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation

As a celebration of Juneteenth we encourage everyone to educate others on the history of the holiday, and seek out Black Owned Businesses to help advance economical empowerment. Black People Eats has compiled an incredible list of black owned restaurants in the city of Chicago offering Juneteenth specials (https://hubs.ly/H0rJ4bg0), while you can find a list of Juneteenth celebrations on The Block Club Chicago (https://hubs.ly/H0rJ3Sy0). Take the time this weekend to spend your dollars where it counts, and help support economic equality and empowerment for the black community.

🙌🏻☀️ in the midst of preparing for whatever is around the corner, who are you being mindful of? Is there someone in your community you can be a helping hand towards?

We’re grateful for all the donations coming in from around the world to help buy soap, hand sanitizer, food, etc. for senior care packages. We’re hearing that seniors are scared to go shopping, over 200 seniors have reached out. Now, because of the outpouring of love From the block, we’re able to expand the care packages and make them stretch farther for those highest at risk. We’re going beyond the basic sanitizer and soap, and now because of the donations were adding canned goods, nuts, toilet paper and more to the packages.

As always, at M3 we’re about taking direct action on the block level and that couldn’t be more necessary than now! Seems like when you do simple things, you can create a wave of change. Keep donating and volunteering. This first feature is the Chicago Auto Show, one I’ve taken family to and privileged to be invited back with a press pass! A Chicago classic, this auto show has been operating since 1901. With 36 different vehicle makers there are endless experiences: driving courses, test drives, and the opportunity to sit in some of the most luxurious cars. Tickets are $13 but you can find a discount in their app and discounted parking after 6pm. Stay till the end where I share more tips and tricks for the auto show.
