My artist copies of JACK WHITE: LAS VEGAS FRENZY are available now!

I designed the official poster for Jack White’s October 2 show at Fontainebleau Las Vegas as a complete, playable board game. “Display it on a wall. Play it on a table.”

Players race around record grooves to get Jack and the band to the concert in time. After the Vegas show, fans gathered at Azul Lounge to actually play their posters together!

Each set includes the 18×24-inch poster/game board, 52 game cards, six wooden playing pieces, a custom die, instructions, and four additional mystery cards “for magicians only.”

Chicago-area folks: want to save on shipping and play your poster with others? Use code GAMENIGHT at checkout for free local pickup. Your order will be held for pickup rather than mailed, and I’ll email you with details. I’m planning a Chicago game night in the next couple of weeks, with the date and venue to follow. If you can’t make it, we’ll arrange another pickup option.

Most posters are for your wall. This one is also for your skin.

NOW AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE.

For Jack White’s July 24 show at The Salt Shed in Chicago, Matthew Jacobson worked with Jen Trok from Deluxe Tattoo Elston, located right inside The Salt Shed, to turn an official concert poster into a real tattoo flash sheet.

Along with the standard black edition of 430, we created just 48 Blue Pearl Editions, screen printed on shimmering blue pearl stock. Each Blue Pearl includes a numbered Blue Pearl Flash Tattoo Guide and the opportunity to choose one of six designs from the poster to have permanently tattooed at Deluxe.

People got tattooed before and during the show.
And a couple weeks later, people are still coming to Deluxe to put Jack White flash from the poster on their bodies.

A limited number of the standard black edition and 10 Blue Pearl Editions, each including a tattoo at Deluxe are available now at magicpaper.bigcartel.com Link in Matthew Jacobson’s Magic Paper bio.

Joining the .now trend with a small sampling of marks I’ve created over the years.

Some were solo projects, most were collaborations, and all were opportunities to work with incredibly talented people over the years.

Collaborators on some of these marks include Andy Gregg, Ashley Postiff, Bonnie Siegler, Britt Daniel, Camilo Medina, Conny Purtill, Duncan Ross, Emily Oberman, Eric Ripert, Eric Zim, Jim Alleman, Julian Baker, and Maguy Le Coze.

It’s strange, and kind of wonderful, seeing such different worlds and time periods all sitting together in one frame.

Stopped by Third Man Records today and found a few old friends still hanging on the wall.

The Tempest Storm “Bolt-A-Trope” record,
The Black Belles’ “Absinthe” vinyl, and the Karen Elson “Laser-cut Lace” sleeve.

Still proud of how hard we pushed to make these records and their packaging feel so magical.

Seen at Third Man Records in Nashville… this flier for The Detroit Cobras’ show at The Gold Dollar in Detroit, based on an old ad my grandfather ran for his burlesque theater, The Stone Burlesk, which was located on the site where Little Caesers Arena now stands.

I just found a couple copies of the 2018 Jack White x Cards Against Humanity poster and cards (aka “The Jack Pack”) that I wrote and designed with CAH, for sale at Third Man Records in Nashville. These are from the exact same batch that were sold at the show, with the cards hand-applied to one side of this double-sided poster. Head on over before they’re gone!

This weekend, I had an amazing experience at The Hand & The Eye.

Special thanks to for the invitation. It was incredible stepping into the world you and your team have had such a hand (and eye) in shaping.

I had a blast spending time with artist-in-residence and wonderful human (and Toby!), whose work I’ve long admired.

Of course the magic itself was extraordinary, thanks in large part to SVP of Magic I can’t even count the number of performers who blew me away with their tricks, bubbles, and balance!

Chicago’s magical mansion isn’t just the largest and most purpose-built magic venue in the word, it’s a place where magic truly lives and breathes (touch the wall with the heartbeat and you’ll feel it too).

Oh, and if you happened to have recently picked a card from me…. Scroll slowly to the last image in this carousel.

In 1997, I designed this 7” single featuring three songs recorded in the 1970s by The Free Design. It was released by the Madrid-based label Siesta. I shot the photos in a park somewhere in Troy or Sterling Heights, Michigan. The models were siblings (friends of my friends Mario and Rose), who also make cameo appearances in the background of a couple of the outtakes. The hats were embroidered with the band name and the label’s catalog number.

Something that has bothered me for 28 years and counting: I shot everything in the fall, but it was meant to be a Christmas single… so why did I choose such a Thanksgiving color palette? I tried to “fix” it with a couple red-and-green stripes, but there’s no denying I was completely colorblind to the holiday. As a result, I’ve never known whether to post this around Thanksgiving or Christmas.

As we approach Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for many things, including my three-decade-and-counting friendship with Mario and Rose. 🤎💛🧡
