Rudd Resources recently joined Healing Illinois on a visit to De Soto, Illinois, to spend time with one of its incredible subgrantees, So ILL Veggies. Simon Cotton and Alexia Diamond learned more about the organization's impact and the meaningful ways it engages students through agriculture and cultural education.

Through its partnership with De Soto Grade School, So ILL Veggies is creating hands-on learning experiences that connect agriculture, culture and community. Students are exploring Native American agricultural history through the Three Sisters planting system: corn, beans and squash. This traditional growing method reflects sustainability, symbiosis and stewardship of the land.

Something special is growing in De Soto, and we're excited to share more soon.

Hired for a special six-month assignment at Rudd Resources, Maia McGregory brought her time, talent and care to the agency, and we are grateful for all she shared with our team.

As senior coordinator supporting agency administration and operations, Maia put her project management, process management and operational experience to work. She supported seamless logistics and systems integration as the agency adopted new HR and inventory management systems and provided day-to-day support for our agency president.

Maia, a proud South Side native and Spelman College graduate, led with an artist’s eye: observant, forward-thinking and deeply attuned to the people and communities around her. Her commitment to supporting fellow Rudders and contributing to Rudd Resources’ intentional work in Chicago communities has made a lasting impression.

We are thankful for her contributions and excited to see what she does next. Please join us in thanking Maia and wishing her well in her next chapter.

Rudd Resources had the privilege of partnering with Share Our Spare and
Family Hub, Chicago Commons to host a National Reading Month storytime event at the Nia Family Center in Humboldt Park in support of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (DPIL), a free book program for young children.

Comedian, actor and West Side native Lil Rel Howery joined as the special guest reader. The event also welcomed Chicago Public Schools CEO Macquline King, State Sen. LaKeisha Collins and Alderwoman Jeanette Taylor.

Rudd Resources developed the vision for the event, secured the celebrity reader and led planning and coordination. The campaign resulted in more than 15 media placements, including coverage across all five major local television news stations, WBEZ and Block Club Chicago.

Early literacy is critical to child development, yet up to 61 percent of low-income families report having no books at home. DPIL is helping close that gap by mailing free books each month to children ages 0–5 on Chicago’s South and West sides, with plans to expand citywide.

As the local program partner, Share Our Spare leads DPIL in Chicago and currently serves more than 5,000 children.

Share Our Spare is seeking new partners and funders to help expand the program and reach more families. To get involved, connect with the organization directly. Caregivers can enroll children at https://hubs.ly/Q04dh1Jx0.

Since summer 2025, Rudd Resources has supported the Chicago Reparations Task Force in developing a public report led by The City of Chicago's Office of Equity and Racial Justice. Forty community leaders serve on the task force, contributing to a report that examines systemic inequities experienced by Black Chicagoans as a result of chattel slavery.

Rudders Malik Joseph, Skkyler N. Ofoedu and Meghan Haynes lead the agency’s work documenting input from task force members and community participants at engagement events, while supporting communications and coordination efforts.

Happy birthday, Chicago!

For 33 weeks, Rudd Resources supported the Chicago Plan Commission, conducting myriad citywide meetings across the city’s 77 neighborhoods and facilitating other opportunities to provide input for the city’s “We Will Chicago" initiative.

The initiative outlines more than 40 goals and 150 objectives to guide the City’s work across eight planning pillars: housing and neighborhoods; arts and culture; environment, climate and energy; lifelong learning; public health and safety; transportation and infrastructure; civic and community engagement; and economic development.

“Community voice is central to every aspect of our agency’s work,” says Director of Engagement Jelani McEwen. “We strive to gather perspectives and points of view from residents across the city. We Will Chicago allowed Rudd Resources to do what we do best: translate the complex and advance people, communities and ideas.”

As the city begins its 189th year, may we all tap into the goals of We Will Chicago, realizing progress and growing stronger every day.

Last year, Rudd Resources worked with Chicago Public Schools to develop its Black Student Success Plan (BSSP), providing strategic counsel and writing, editing and graphic design services.

“I am a Chicago native, I was a CPS student, and I spent a decade working in the education space to improve student agency and further academic growth,” says Rudd Resources Vice President, Client Relations Jessica Bee. “For me, supporting the BSSP was more than just this project: The work represents our agency’s dedication to mission-rooted work on behalf of Chicago communities, with youth outcomes being a truly important measure of our city’s commitments.”

Chicago is home to one of the largest school districts in the country, and being asked to support CPS’ work is a tremendous responsibility we hold with care. As we prepare to celebrate the city’s 189th year, may we all be invested in the success of students citywide.

For the Red Line Extension project, Rudd Resources serves as the lead community liaison for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) in partnership with Walsh-VINCI Transportation Partners. Rudd Resources leads community engagement efforts across Chicago’s Far South Side neighborhoods, ensuring residents are informed, heard and meaningfully involved.

“Our agency has a long history working with transit entities across Chicago, and we understand that neighborhoods need vibrant, accessible and affordable public transportation,” says Kimberley Rudd, president and senior counselor of Rudd Resources. “Whenever we work in neighborhoods, we protect and prioritize resident voices. Chicago is its neighborhoods. They are the fabric of the city, and nothing should move forward without engaging the community.”

Chicago’s legacy as a rail hub and public transportation innovator, including the nation’s second-largest public transit system, has shaped its growth for nearly two centuries. As the city approaches its 189th year, Rudd Resources celebrates the role transit continues to play in connecting communities and expanding opportunity. We look forward to seeing Chicago keep moving forward by rail, bus and bike, building on a legacy that keeps the city connected and thriving.
