One of the things we love most about what we do is the amazing people and businesses we get to collaborate with. When Anne from Restoration Body Spa came to us back in 2017 for brand development and web design, we were blown away by her story. Anne had previously been diagnosed with hormone positive breast cancer, and at that time, she started looking for beauty products and services that were organic and did not increase the hormones in her body. This ended up fueling a desire to help others balance out their beauty by opening up her own spa.

Since Restoration Body Spa is all about natural, organic beauty solutions, we wanted that to shine through in their branding. We went with a timeless serif font and a minimal succulent illustration, providing a clean, refined, and organic feel. We also kept the color palette soft and inviting — with pops of and foliage green — to provide some variety and a more natural feel to the branding.

Coming off of a wonderful long weekend celebrating both my birthday and Flint House’s birthday! 🎉

Over the weekend, I spent a lot of time reflecting on the past year of this little studio of mine. I started Flint House when my husband and I first moved to Chicago. Before then, I had been freelance designing from a small town in Utah, and I knew that I wanted to expand my passion for branding & design into something more — something that could have a greater reach and impact in helping businesses develop & refine their brand identities. So I set up shop in downtown Chicago, and thus, Flint House was born.

Ever since then, it’s been a wonderful journey full of amazing clients, lessons learned, and everything in between. So here’s to all of you — friends, clients, and followers — and to another year of it all. I couldn’t be more grateful. 🖤

One of the most common mistakes we’ve noticed in branding (especially within small business branding) is when businesses forget to focus inward. While the outward visuals definitely play an important role in branding, they can prove to be ineffective if they aren’t based on an internal focus. When businesses center their focus inward (defining brand values, identifying their target market, setting a clear vision, etc.) the outward will in turn have a chance to more accurately and effectively represent their brand. 🖤

Stepping away from the screen and deep-diving into brand discovery. We’ve found that taking time to find inspiration through non-digital resources is an essential part of our design process.

It can be so easy to get lost in the endless Pinterest scroll for inspiration (where everything starts looking the same — anyone else notice this too?), so we like to supplement that with books/magazines/etc. for a fresh perspective. Not only does this give us more inspiration to draw from, it helps us stay focused and keep our clients’ best interests at heart. 🖤

In a world that is increasingly becoming more digital, print collateral (like these gorgeous business cards we designed for Kiran Nagi Interiors) can make a world of a difference in a brand’s presence. With letterpress & gold foiling on beautiful uncoated white paper, these business cards help elevate the KNI brand experience to be elegant and refined, just like their interior designs.
