Many people probably don’t know that Billy Goat makes a mean breakfast sandwich.

We would risk missing the bus to school in the morning for one, sometimes!

It’s a great place and the owner will be missed.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sam Sianis — the legendary, longtime owner of Billy Goat Tavern and a true Chicago original. Sam passed away peacefully this morning in his sleep, surrounded by his loving family.

Sam was more than a restaurateur; he was a Chicago legend. His tireless work ethic, devotion to his beloved Tavern, and deep love for this city made him a cultural icon and an inspiration to all who knew him. Above all, he was a devoted family man and a cherished friend to countless people whose lives he touched.

Loved by many, he will be deeply missed. May his memory be eternal.

My obsession began early in math class at MPA. We learned how many different shake combinations you could possibly make with your menu.

On Friday, March 27th, the procession for Chicago Firefighter/EMT Michael Altman will pass through the 19th Ward on the route from Saint Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. They will travel south on Western Avenue to 103rd Street, west on 103rd Street to Kedzie Avenue, south on Kedzie Avenue to 111th Street, west on 111th Street. Please line the street along the route to honor our fallen hero.

FF Mike Altman of the Chicago Fire Department, assigned to Truck 47, was critically injured March 16th while doing what he always did- putting others first. During a primary search at a structure fire, Mike fell through the floor into a room that was fully on fire. He sustained burns over more than 90 percent of his body, and tragically has passed away from his injuries.

Mike was not only a dedicated firefighter, but also a husband and father with a young child at home and another baby on the way. The road ahead will be long, difficult, and incredibly costly for his family. As they navigate this devastating loss, let’s come together to support them not only financially, but offer them love and support for as long as they need it.
