My resolution for 2024 was to start quilting. It had been ruminating in my head for a year or two - I thought I would enjoy it but wasn’t sure if I could pick it up since I hadn’t sewn in 20 years. Well, I ended up completing 14 quilts, a few more quilty projects, and have several in progress! Most have been gifts and I feel like my skills have been improving, but best of all I feel so excited about it! It’s the jump start I needed after years of feeling creatively drained and emotionally exhausted after covid and having young kids.
My first attempt is at the end, my jump into the deep end with no pattern. It’s the only quilt I’ve made myself and it’s basically crib sized. I cut the strips before I even knew what a jelly roll was (which would have been much faster). I made all three sizes of the triangle fade quilt, did a quilt along for the upscale plaid and then made a second that was longarmed by , and have made many patterns by . I’ve truly learned so much this year and I feel like letterpress really prepared me for the precision and process of quilting. It’s given me a huge boost in creativity at Pistachio Press. I don’t have any set goals for the new year aside from actually finishing a quilt for myself and having Sara longarm it with a kickass pantograph!
Happy new year! May you find something you’re passionate about this coming year ❤️
