It’s finally that time of year again! Christmas lights! Ice skating rinks! Men with human heads for shoulders and hybrid dog-chickens emerging from icy waters! It really IS the most wonderful time of year.
Londoners were horrified to come across a seemingly AI-generated Christmas mural in the popular Kingston Riverside area depicting that classic holiday scene of revelers at a market atop an icy river—with bodies half-human, half-animal; missing limbs; distorted faces; and a snowman that would make Frosty himself weep.
While the ownership of the mural remains a mystery, the lesson does not: proof your AI-generated images. AI can be a powerful graphic-design tool, but this creepy reminder tells us that it’s only as useful as the humans overseeing it. If you don’t carefully review and revise your AI-generated images, others will be left with nightmares and a therapist’s bill that even ChatGPT can’t make go away.
