They got there by building things that work without them having to start from zero every single time.

Most operators are stuck in a loop.
Same problem comes up.

Where does automation help?

1. Pricing rules
Keep the Buy Box without tanking margin.

2. Bid automation
Let the ad tech platform optimize bids, but only within the guardrails you set.

3. Repetitive tasks
Bulk case submissions, pulling reports, tagging keywords (things you shouldn’t waste brain cells on).

Where it fails?

1. Autopilot tools follow rules you set, not your strategy.

They’ll adjust bids or spin up campaigns exactly as instructed without stopping to ask if it’s the right move.

The list keeps growing.

Look. Amazon is catching up.

The Ad Console is rolling out genAI-powered features (keyword isolation, bulk edits, negative targeting) that used to be third-party exclusives.

Tools that were once essential are starting to look like overpriced luxuries.

Tools are multipliers.

They make good strategy better and bad strategy worse.

Have 10 SKUs? You don’t need a $2K/month enterprise suite.
Have 1,000 SKUs? Yes, automation saves your sanity.
Have no clear strategy? All the software in the world won’t fix that.

Over-reliance on software has created a generation of sellers who don’t actually know how to correctly set up or effectively run campaigns.
