How do I write SEO-friendly content?
Most of us know that writing SEO-friendly content is a must for website owners, but what exactly does "SEO friendly" mean? If you use copy from another site or hire a writer to do it for you, how can you be sure the words will follow Google's guidelines and not get your site into trouble? In this article we'll discuss ways to keep your content original and search engine-optimized.
When I first started my business, I used articles from EzineArticles.com to put on my blog; little did I know those sentences would later come back and haunt me! Not only was it plagiarism (which Google doesn't like), but many of these articles were missing vital information. For example, there was no author name or contact information, and links to the original source were also missing. If Google can't find out who wrote it and where it came from, they place less value on the article.
When you're quoting an article, blog post or even a paragraph from another site (that's why plagiarism checkers like Grammarly come in handy) make sure to include the author's name and website address at the end of each sentence; this tells search engines, "this is important!"
Use your own words:
Don't be tempted to copy-and-paste large sections of text from other sites into yours just because it will save you time. To Google, if all your content reads exactly the same when it doesn't have to, there's a problem! Not only is this another form of plagiarism, but the article may also contain hidden links for Google to find which you don't want them to see.
When you use an article from another source, follow it exactly as it appears; if the author writes in short sentences and paragraphs, your content should be written the same way. If an article features lots of long words or using specific jargon that you wouldn't ordinarily use (and that isn't related to what you're writing about) make those changes now before publishing any copies onto your blog.
It's important you understand what makes up original content , so here are some tips:
1. Keep articles under 500 words.
2. Address topics specific to your niche, not general ones.
3. Use original images and information in every blog post you publish - do NOT copy them from other sites.
4. Don't forget to add a byline with the author's name at the end of each article!
5. Make sure all links work properly and direct visitors to pages relevant to what they're looking for.
When writing for SEO purposes, it's also important to remember that Google likes variety ! Every time you publish a blog post, use different phrases or keywords throughout sentences, but don't stuff them together; you want search engines (and readers) to find something unique about what you wrote so they'll keep coming back for more! The same goes for keywords; don't use the same one more than once in a paragraph.
You don't necessarily have to change the words you use when writing for SEO purposes, but make sure they're relevant to what you're saying and that every article is packed with original information. Search engines will always appreciate that!
