IP is a curious thing. Trademarks and copyright are there to usually protect the rights of creatives as well as give power to protect this rights when someone else is using the artwork without permission. AND THEN …. And then there are businesses/people who copyright or trademark common phrases with thinly veiled goals of exploitation option of eliminating competition in essence has gone viral for all the wrong reasons in book community by trademarking the phrase for stationery and t shirts/sweatshirts. It is a unique case of “just because you can doesn’t mean you should “. I’m curious to see how this will play out

This is not so fun side of being an artist online, because if artwork goes viral and succeeds the art thieves are on the sidelines looking for quick way to cash in.
I created this sunflower bouquet from painting individual blooms and stems. And it joined my collection of art on . At one point this artwork went viral and was on top sellers on RB sticker page. It has sold more than 40k times on Redbubble alone, but then it was screenshot and copied and ended up on Aliexpress and Alibaba and the flood gates opened. It was like playing very frustrating game of wack a mole filing DMCA notices with Amazon/Etsy/Walmart where sellers were selling sticker kits with stolen artwork. It ended up on SHEIN and now looks like more websites and . At this point I have filed dozens of DMCAs. The artwork is registered with US copyright office. And every so often I go online to reverse image search to see who else is making money of my stolen artwork. It is disappointing, and aggravating.
