I feel like this should be obvious, but I saw a marketing company do it on their business card, so I thought I’d share. When you’re doing traditional marketing like business cards, car decals, billboards, or print, and you’re trying to promote your social media too, don’t just put the social media logos like you would on your website. They’re not clickable. Most of the time, the company name is not the same as the handle across platforms, or it’s something weird with a bunch of periods and underscores. At that point, you’re basically just advertising the platform, and they don’t need your help. Put your actual handle, like . People will know what it means, and it will actually help them find you. Hope this helps.

When marketing your small business, don’t try to change the platform, the culture, or the way people want to consume content. You probably don’t have the budget to change behavior, and even if you did, it likely wouldn’t work. At the same time, don’t market like it’s 2001 and expect modern results.

If you’re DIYing your marketing, learn how your ideal customers already consume content and create for them, not just for yourself. Understand the platform, learn what works, apply those principles, then break the rules just enough to stand out. But don’t post a 2000s-style TV commercial on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok and expect it to perform.

Study what works. Practice. Do more of what works. Then do it consistently, at a volume most people find unreasonable, for a length of time most people find impossible. That’s how extraordinary results happen. Most successful businesses got there through consistency, repetition, and persistence over a long period of time. What makes us any different?

Hope this helps!

Start making content for your business like it’s for them, not you.

05/27/2026

Stop treating your business page like a perfect corporate cutout and start treating it like the greatest marketing asset you have.

Don’t copy Fortune 500 companies. Copy the businesses like yours actually winning online and offline.

The strategy isn’t a secret. Create content that attracts attention, builds trust, shows your process, and creatively showcases what you do. Most content should entertain, educate, or connect. Only a small percentage should directly sell.

Make content for social media first. Post consistently. Test a lot. Then look at what performs best and turn the winners into ads targeting your ideal local customers.

Organic content at scale. Then amplify the winners with ads. Rinse and repeat.
