Stop 🛑 fooling yourself with “guru” advice!

I see posts all the time with people showing how they went from 0-1M or how they started their accounts 2 weeks ago and are making thousands.

I hate to break it to you, but this is clickbait. This might happen to a very lucky person every once in a while like we saw with TikTok, but it doesn’t work for everyone.

That’s why as a business owner, you shouldn’t try to do everything the “gurus” say.

Instead of doing your marketing DIY style with “guru” tips and tricks, you should consider outsourcing to professionals.

If they tell you they can make all your dreams come true, then run cause that’s a huge red flag 🚩

But if they are realistic and tell you how things work, don’t over promise, and deliver what they say they will deliver, then you should consider working with them.

A lot of small businesses have outdated websites.

They might think that once it’s published, the work is done. But, times change.

Periodically, you should evaluate the performance of your website, make updates, and re-design when the time comes.

This small business ⬆️ had a website that was outdated and overcrowded. There was too much text on every single page.

We worked with them to re-brand their small business with a brand strategy, a new brand visual system, and new website.

The process can be long and a lot of work is involved, but it's worth it!

The user-experience on your website should work in your favor, not against you.

POV: You’re a woman in a male-dominated industry ⤵

Yes…And?

The fence industry is male dominated!

Our client is a small, woman-owned fence installation and supply distributor.

We teamed up to refresh her brand and get her a modernized website.

Her vision shifted from feminine branding with pinks and purples to a keeping the original brand colors but changing the logo.

Why?

She wanted to stay true to the business name, “American.” So, we played around with a logo that resembled Rosie the riveter, but that didn’t work.

We took a break from the branding and moved to develop the website in hopes that seeing the full vision would inspire our client. And it worked!

The end result is an updated logo that stays true to the original palette with a clean, vibrant, and organized website with a few feminine touches.

POV: Your website is giving 1999 vibes ⤵

What to do?

Well, first, you need to take a look around, it’s not 1999 anymore. Your website shouldn’t be full of text, over crowded, and bland.

Minimalistic doesn’t mean bland by the way. It’s just a minimal, clean aesthetic that is easier on the eyes.

When we started working with this client, the main vibe their branding and website gave was 1999.

They knew it. That’s why they reached out to us. They wanted a modern website that was easy to navigate, improve traffic, reduce bounce, and get leads!

The first step was designing a new logo and creating a brand strategy that could be easily implemented across all their channels.

End result was a fresh, modern, witty, and vibrant brand identity.

This was by far one of my favorite projects to work on.

And, the best part was that soon after launching the new website, leads started pouring in!

Marketing and communications are terms that are used interchangeably in many work places. But what is the real difference?

MarCom is the bridge between these two disciplines. Marketing and Communications both focus on raising brand awareness, optimizing performance, and enhancing customers or clients.

The difference between marketing and communications is their purpose. While they both can share objectives and goals, the purpose of each discipline is different.

Marketing focuses on promoting and selling. Whether it’s products or services, marketing works to promote and encourage sales via owned and paid media.

Communications focuses on storytelling. It’s the process of informing your customers or target audiences by conveying specific messages that don’t necessarily have the goal of selling.

While they are different, they must work in sync for business success. MarCom or integrated marketing communications is that bridge that uses the strengths of both disciplines to best connect with prospects and customers encourage loyalty and raising brand awareness.

Where do you start?

The first thing is understanding what a brand refresh entails.

A brand refresh does not only focus on the logo and color palette but it also focuses on refreshing your marketing materials, website copy, and re-organizing your website for an easy to navigate user friendly experience.

A brand refresh will focus on all the brand elements and on the business story such as your about, your mission, your slogan or marketing tagline, your core values, and your value proposition, among other things.

Think about it this way…your branding strategy is about how you present yourself or your business to the world. What you want them to know about you, your core values, your value proposition, your key messages, etc.

Your marketing strategy is how you do it. Your marketing strategy details the outreach activities or tactics that you will use to accomplish your business goals.

It can sound like one in the same, but it’s not. You should have your brand strategy and brand style guide ready to go before you dive into your marketing strategy.

A huge part of storytelling in PR and marketing is getting your authentic voice or the voice of the brand to shine.

That’s the easiest yet most difficult task you can imagine.

Take a moment to dive into the mission of the brand, whether it’s an established organization, a new business or your personal brand.

What is the most important message that you need to share with the world? What is the voice you want your business or yourself to be associated with.

And by voice, I don’t only mean your brand personality. I also mean the authentic message that you want to share with people that will benefit from your product or service.

Sharing the authentic voice of your business or personal brand through marketing and PR is a huge component of a successful strategy.

It’s about sharing the “why” and “how” through a message combination that gets the audience to understand the “why” and the “how” while coming to the conclusion that the “what” is their answer.

“What” = Product or Service
“Why” = Benefit for the audience
“How” = How the benefit is achieved through the product or service

Manifesting is not only about creating the life of your dreams, it’s also about creating the business of your dreams.

Manifesting is about taking your vision and turning it into reality.

It will not become reality if you don’t work for it. That’s the key to manifesting in business. You need to create the vision, create milestones and goals to measure your progress, and work towards turning your vision into reality.

Crafting a new brand identity can be an exciting and fear-provoking initiative.

Branding is an important component of any organization. But, how do you know when it is time for a rebrand? A rebrand is not only about updating visual components of an organization, but it is also about maintaining the voice and personality of the original identity. It can be a tricky process, but it can also be an exciting new avenue of creative expression.

The visual elements of a brand are important to distinguish it from others in the minds of customers and clients, but so is the core of the brand. The core of the brand consists of the mission, positioning, tagline, core values, brand personality/voice, and value proposition.

To deliver a consistent brand across all the various customer/client touch points, it is important to clearly understand the purpose of the organization, what they are offering, how their offering benefits their target audience, and how an interested person can get the offering. Assuming a startup or a new company already has their mission, personality, value proposition and so forth, refreshing this content will focus on simplifying it.

Learning from your mistakes is the first lesson we are taught growing up. It is also the first lesson we need to learn in business.

Without failure there is no success. Without failing, we will never learn what works and what doesn’t work. Failing is a learning opportunity.

In business, we always want to get things right because we see people easily succeeding all the time. What we don’t see is the millions of times that they failed and the millions of times that their content flopped.

Everything is a learning opportunity. The difference between someone that succeeds and someone that dwells in their failure is their mindset.

To make your small business or start up last the test of time, you need to understand that failure is part of the process.
