Sometimes it takes decades to understand a conversation.

Nearly twenty-five years ago, my grandmother spoke words that I could not comprehend at twenty-four. Today, at forty-eight, I finally do.

A memory from her kitchen, a difficult season, and a watercolor dogwood taught me something about sacrifice, calling, and the God who is still shaping us through both the highlights and the shadows.

My newest Aging English Major post, Bending My Will, is now live.

Jennifer Greene-Sullivan reflects on her grandmother’s words after the death of her grandfather, emphasizing the complexities of marriage, sacrifice, and personal identity. As she navigates h…

I'm asking for prayer.

A devastating earthquake struck the region of the Philippines where our sponsored children, Dave and Regine, live. They are safe, but many families, homes, and churches have been affected.

My latest Aging English Major post shares their story and a prayer for their community. 🌏💙

This morning, I completed the line work for this dogwood. I chose the colors, added the watercolor washes, and then spent part of the day revisiting the painting to strengthen the shadows. I knew the flower needed more depth, so I kept working, trusting that eventually it would come alive.

As I painted, I realized how much this process mirrors what the Lord has done in me and in my family.

Growth rarely happens all at once. It develops through ordinary days, small acts of obedience, difficult seasons, and lessons learned over time. We celebrate the highlights, but it is often the shadows that create the depth. The Lord has used both joyful moments and challenging ones to shape us into who we are becoming.

Today also marks ten years of marriage for Chris and me. Last year, we both forgot our anniversary until two weeks after it had passed. This year, we remembered. We celebrated. We were intentional.

If I'm being honest, this has been one of the most difficult years of our marriage. Yet we are still here. The Lord is still working in us. He is still working in our children. He is still writing our story.

When I first looked at this flower, I saw potential. After the shadowing, I began to see dimension. The same is true of God's work in our lives. He sees the finished masterpiece long before we do.

"And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another." — 2 Corinthians 3:18 (ESV)

Today, I am thankful for the process. I am thankful for the growth I see in my children, in my marriage, and in myself. Most of all, I am thankful that God is not finished with any of us yet.🌼🎨❤️

Liam spent this week at baseball camp, but every morning started the same way:

"Mama, where's my helmet?"

"Mama, where are my Crocs?"

As I searched for missing baseball gear, the Lord reminded me of something important. We spend a lot of time keeping up with our stuff—but are we keeping up with our spiritual stuff?

My newest Aging English Major post, Keep Up With Your Stuff, is now live. ⚾📖❤️

Liam’s experience at baseball camp emphasizes the importance of personal responsibility and independence, paralleling spiritual growth. The author reflects on how individuals must cultivate t…

When we met a traveling artist at Kolomoki Mounds during the week of New Year's, I thought God had arranged the encounter for Liam.

Months later, I realize He had something for me too.

What began as a week of painting, sharing testimonies, and studying Scripture together has grown into something I never expected. Through watercolor, God has taught me to slow down, notice His handiwork, and experience His presence in a fresh way.

During a New Year’s encounter at Kolomoki Mounds, Jennifer Greene-Sullivans reflects on meeting Melissa, a traveling artist. Initially believing the meeting was meant to encourage her son Lia…

I Lift Up My Eyes

This watercolor began with Psalm 121.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."

Lately, I have found myself facing some difficult decisions and uncertain seasons. Like many people, I would prefer a clear map, a detailed plan, and a guarantee that everything will work out exactly the way I hope. Instead, God often asks us to walk by faith.

Faith does not mean we always know the outcome. Faith means we know the One who holds the outcome.

As I painted these hills, I thought about the psalmist lifting his eyes upward. He wasn't looking to the hills for help. He was looking beyond them—to the God who created them.

Sometimes the hills in our lives are obstacles. Sometimes they are opportunities. Sometimes they are difficult choices that require courage. Whatever hill stands before us today, our help is not found in our own strength, wisdom, or ability to control the future.

Our help comes from the Lord.

If you are walking through a difficult season, facing a hard decision, or wondering what comes next, lift your eyes.

The same God who made the mountains is more than able to guide you through them.

💙
