Have you used “Crazy 8S” in your design process? 👉🏼 Crazy 8s is a core design sprint method that challenges people to sketch 8 distinct idea in 8 minutes.
The goal of Crazy 8s is to push beyond your first idea—often the least innovative—and generate a wide variety of solutions to your problem.
These Crazy 8 sketches hope to help my user “Nina” find the perfect cafe for remote working in her city (or a city she might be visiting).
While some of these sketches might look very similar, they are all individual and approach the solution in a slightly different way. While my first solution was not bad, my later solutions offer Nina more information quickly and clearly.

Did you know❔👉🏼 Approximately 1 in every 12 men (and 1 in every 200 women) are color blind, according to research. Yes, people who are color blind can see things just as clearly as everyone else, but they cannot fully distinguish red, green, or blue light. As designers, our role is to design UIs that are accessible to the maximum number of people.

Here are 3 simple ways you can design for color-blind users and examples of them used effectively.

It’s 2022 and we are bombarded with options. 👉🏼From what milk you want in your coffee ☕️ to what you are going to watch on Netflix 🖥 at the end of the day. Sometimes options are great, but othertimes, they become overwhelming. Because of this, more and more people experience decision fatigue on a regular basis. 👇🏼

As empathetic designers we can help our users out by eliminating choices / visual options as much as possible. Here are 3 practical ways (with examples) of how you can implement Hick’s Law in your designs!

Starting 2022 off with a fresh office look 👌🏻 been loving my Jarvis standing desk frame & balance board. I feel so much for engaged with my work during the day. Anyone else have a standing desk they love?

This week has been a great one—both in my work life & my personal life. I’ll be sharing later this week, but I’ve set a word for the year—a practice I’ve done in pervious years. And I can’t wait to see where life with this word in focus takes me!

Happy Wednesday friends!

Exactly one year ago, I took a huge leap of faith and enrolled in a course that would shape my career and life moving forward.

At the time, I was contracting as a graphic / web designer. When I started contracting, I thought I had reached my life’s goal — I could make money doing creative work, from home, on my schedule.

By the Spring of 2020 though, I had realized a few things — 1. I was very unfulfilled in what I was doing — much of my work was backed by little to no research, thus, the pretty designs were serving no one long term and 2. I had become a workaholic. Not only that, but the lives of many of the people I worked for, were lives I didn’t want. The tldr — I felt like I had hit a dead end in my career, in the middle of a pandemic.

Around the same time, I learned what UX design was — and immediately knew that, not only would it satisfy my desire to do informed work, but the career trajectory of UX designers—specifically in tech, is very good.

So, after months of doing my own learning, doing a bit of contract UX work, and researching options to break into the tech industry, I enrolled in a 6-month, super intense UX course. It was expensive, a huge time commitment (40+ hours per week on top of my normal work), and I had no idea what I could expect at the end.

But, I’m here on the other side, with a great job, working for a company I love, doing work that is more than choosing pretty colors, and — having saved in our dream first home. I got the job before finishing the course, and have had opportunity after opportunity to encourage others in their career journey since.

All this to say — if you’re not happy where you’re at, seek out change, be willing to invest in yourself, put in the work, and focus on your goals. It’s been worth it a million times over.

3 random things you might not know about me!👇🏼 let’s go!

1. I am an avid trail runner. 🏃🏼‍♀️On most weekends you can find me out on some mountain in Colorado, running and taking in the views. Currently I’m training for 3 races of the next 6 months—the longest being a 50mile ultra in AZ. 🏜

2. I love a good cup of coffee with oat milk. ☕️ I have a few favorite local roasters who I buy my beans from and love brewing in my French press. It’s a part of my morning routine that I never see myself giving up. ☀️

3. My husband and I are coming up on our 4 year anniversary! 💍 We got married when we were 21 and have had so many incredible adventures these last 4 years (quitting our jobs to move across the country and exploring the western US in our van—to name a few). Last week we closed on our first home and are so excited to be entering this new stage of life together.🏡

Tell me something I might not know about you! ✌🏼 happy Tuesday friends!

We bought a house! 🔑🏡 this last month has been a whirlwind to say the least, but we’re so happy to be in our adorable new place.
I’ll probably be a little more MIA here on IG as we settle in, but tune into my personal account .moyer to see more vids of the inside and the little renovations we start on!

You know that feeling when you download a new app and you just can’t find the menu button? Or you book a flight and can’t find where your gate is listed?
When we use the google search tool or book through a familiar airline we take for granted how simple these tools are, but when we experience bad UX, that is all we can focus on.
As a UX designer my goal is to constantly learn how users behave in different situations while engaging with my product, uncover what actions are expected, where they are expected and, in turn, create a great experience for them.

Using that PTO this week to get out to the mountains with family, friends, and my favorite adventure pup✌🏼⛰🐶
When I worked as a contractor full time, I had the hardest time “shutting off” work because I didn’t have PTO and felt the need to always be available. Now, as much as I love my new “9-5”, I am able to shut off and enjoy my time OOO, knowing my team is holding down the product fort and will have everything together when I get back👌🏻

Here’s to summer and long weekends 🌞
