Is this the worst ad of the year?

Rarely in the annals of modern advertising has such a poorly-made ad, for such a big brand, been the recipient of such a huge global media budget.

Think generative AI is sh*tty now? Just wait.

stolen from Woody Hinkle (no relation).

This is kind of long, but interesting:

I asked Chat GPT to write 250 words on "Why AI cannot write advertising copy" Here it is:

"AI is limited in its ability to write effective advertising copy because it lacks the creativity, emotional intelligence, and cultural understanding that successful advertising requires. Advertising copy is more than just words; it’s about crafting messages that resonate with target audiences, evoke emotions, and inspire action. AI generates text based on patterns in data, which often leads to generic or predictable content. It struggles to create original ideas or capture the subtle nuances of language that connect with consumers on a personal level.

"Moreover, AI cannot fully grasp cultural contexts or anticipate how a message might be perceived by different audiences. Emotional appeal, a crucial element in advertising, requires an understanding of human experiences that AI simply does not possess. While AI can assist in drafting and refining copy, it cannot replace the creative insight and emotional depth that human writers bring to advertising."

F**k AI. (not woody's words)

Swing and a miss!

In one of Google’s Olympics ads, a dad uses AI tool Gemini to craft a fan letter from his daughter to an Olympian. But it’s the wrong approach to express admiration in a star athlete – and to instill confidence in a burgeoning one.

There's still hope. (link in comments)

"In February, Google announced that it will prioritize high-quality original content in its search results even if it is written by AI and demote spam content. “Google has many years of experience dealing with automation being used in an attempt to game search results,” a blog post reads.

“If Google is somehow detecting that the AI-written piece is like less valuable and is de-ranking it then it defeats the point of what you're paying for,” says Adelle Archer, a client on Upwork who hires 20 freelancers for various tasks of her memorial diamond startup Eterneva."

Sick burn!

A :30 spot with a :15 disclaimer. Just another day writing radio for a cannabis client. (And no, we don't get free samples.)

Heard a radio spot this morning for Power Pill, a generic vi**ra for two dollars a pill. They really missed the boat on not tagging it "Two Buck F*ck."
