RUBIO: US NEEDS MORE HIGH-LEVEL VISITS TO INDIA, CALLS NEW DELHI A KEY STRATEGIC PARTNER

US Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio has underscored India’s strategic importance to , calling for more high-level visits and deeper engagement between the two countries during his visit to India.

Highlighting India’s status as the world’s most populous country and largest democracy, described India as an important commercial and business partner, a key member of the , and a strong strategic partner of the United States.

Pointing to India’s extensive diplomatic engagement with Washington, noted that India’s External Affairs Minister had visited the United States four times this year. “I actually don’t think we’ve come enough, and I think we need to have more of them,” he said, signalling the need for more frequent high-level exchanges.

Rubio also highlighted the importance of bilateral defence cooperation, commercial ties and strategic coordination, reinforcing India’s central role in the United States’ Indo-Pacific engagement.

India Condemns Saudi Attacks, Calls for Peace and Protection of Civilians

India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the recent attacks on Saudi Arabia, including the reported strike on Aramco headquarters, calling them “totally unacceptable” and urging an immediate halt to attacks on civilian infrastructure.

India expressed solidarity with the people and government of Saudi Arabia in defending the Kingdom’s sovereignty and called for a return to peace and normalcy in the region.

Jaiswal said the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia remains in regular contact with the Indian community and has issued advisories to ensure their safety and well-being. Attacks on airports have disrupted flight schedules, particularly affecting Indian carriers operating services to and from Riyadh, Dammam, Medina and Jeddah. The embassy is providing updated information to travellers and passengers stranded by the disruptions.

Addressing the casualties from the October 10 attack, Jaiswal said 12 people were injured, one of whom subsequently died. In accordance with the family’s wishes, the deceased’s last rites were performed in Riyadh with assistance from the Indian Embassy.

Of the 11 remaining injured people, three have been discharged, while eight remain hospitalised, including four in intensive care. Embassy officials are visiting the injured regularly and maintaining contact with their families.
