Introducing Colts Neck Sons & Daughter of Liberty.
In today’s Colts Neck, it can be difficult to separate facts from opinions and emotion. To help our community evaluate information more objectively, we will begin using a standardized rating system inspired by the principles used by Ground News.
Each public statement or comment may be evaluated based on:
Bias: Does it present a clear political or ideological perspective?
* 🔵 Left
* 🟣 Lean Left
* ⚪ Center
* 🔴 Lean Right
* 🔴 Right
Ownership: Ownership can influence editorial direction or incentives, so this provides additional context.
* Public company
* Family-owned
* Independent
* Government-funded
* Nonprofit
Factuality: Are the claims supported by verifiable facts?
Evidence: Does the author provide credible sources or supporting information?
Loaded Language: Does it rely on emotional or inflammatory wording instead of facts?
Constructiveness: Does it encourage productive discussion or primarily attack individuals?
Our goal is not to censor opinions or tell people what to believe. Every resident is entitled to their own views. This system is simply a tool to help distinguish facts from opinions, supported claims from unsupported assertions, and respectful debate from misinformation or personal attacks.
An informed community is a stronger community. We encourage everyone to review the evidence, think critically, and come to their own conclusions.
Rating format by default:
* Bias: (if determinable)
* Factuality: ★☆☆☆☆ to ★★★★★
* Evidence: ★☆☆☆☆ to ★★★★★
* Loaded Language: ★☆☆☆☆ to ★★★★★
* Constructiveness: ★☆☆☆☆ to ★★★★★
* Summary: A concise explanation of the overall assessment.
If a comment contains specific factual claims, I’ll also distinguish between:
* Verifiable facts
* Opinions
* Unsupported assertions
* Rhetorical or emotionally loaded language
While we have many contributors and will try to monitor all of the various distribution of conten, we may not be able to cover everything.
