What the heck is LCP and why should you care? With Google Rankings set to change May 2021, it's important to understand their new metrics so you can outrank your competition.⁠⠀

So, let's talk about LCP ("Largest Contentful Paint"). LCP, in a nutshell, is the main image or piece of content that loads when someone first lands on your webpage. Specifically the largest image, video, or block of info on the screen.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Google wants our sites to "get to the beans" as quickly as possible. Visitors need to know quickly if they've landed on the right page-- and a page loading or simple title quickly popping up isn't going to cut it. Previously common "optimization" methods had the images load last to improve the perceived load-time, which is now no longer a good idea for the main content.⁠⠀

So how fast can your visitors "get to the beans"? Run a test at gtmetrix.com. The goal is under 2.5 Seconds 75% of the time.⁠⠀

May 2021 is expected to bring a BIG shakeup to Google search results as they add Page Experience metrics to their core algorithm. It sounds scarier than it is and has the potential to really boost businesses who CARE about their user's experience and lower the rank of businesses only focused on stuffing their site with keywords and coding tricks to make it "seem" fast.⁠⠀
⁠⠀
Google's PageSpeed Insights and gtmetrix.com provide great insights on these new metrics so you can get out in front of any potential issues. I recommend running a test today and looking for any issues, especially from the following two metrics, so you can start working on them before the update goes live.⁠⠀

There are a ton of hosting options with an endless variety of configurations. It can be overwhelming. To make things easier, here are some of the hosts I recommend for a solid balance of performance, flexibility, and value for a managed WordPress site.

I don’t believe in charging clients a premium for hosting and “white labeling” it. It should be entirely your choice and available at a fair market price. If you need something different than the suggestions below, I’m happy to give personal advice regarding any host.
