Discoverability is starting to matter more.
49% of consumers now find new small businesses through social media, versus 40% through search. That’s a behavior shift already in motion.
Google saw it too. Almost on cue, the 25-year old Image Search was redesigned this week into a Pinterest-style feed with a personalized “For You” gallery, plus a “Collections” feature to save images into folders. This feature rolls out on desktop in the U.S. over the coming weeks (so be on the lookout!). Instead of creating a new behavior, Google is adapting to what the audience are doing.
And business owners are recognizing it from the inside. Constant Contact’s newest Small Business Now report found 73% of small business owners globally now identify as a Creator in some capacity.
These, at first, may seem like three different signals. But they all tell the same story: the good old days of optimizing for searching alone won’t cut it. The consumers are discovering businesses and the channels and businesses must adapt to it.
Your presence and content on digital channels matter. If your visual content isn’t built to be discovered mid-scroll, that’s a project to tackle this month.
