Do you have a website? If you do, please go check this right now…

Make sure you actually OWN your online assets. If you used a marketing company to build you a website, setup your Google business page, etc…many times marketing companies will actually own those assets, and you’re just leasing them from them!

What that means is, if you ever want to switch marketing companies, or if you want to start managing it yourself, you can’t take it with you!

If you’re unsure, go read through the fine print of the agreement, and if it turns out you don’t actually own those assets, start backing everything up right now.

Does AI seem too good to be true for your business?

Well…it might be. Many advertising platforms have now rolled out AI campaign management. That means instead of setting up an ad campaign yourself, or hiring a marketing agency, you can let AI do it for you.

Sounds good right?

The problem is, most people think that they want a low cost per click. Wouldn’t you want to get leads for less money? But running a successful ad campaign isn’t just about getting leads, it’s about QUALITY leads. So while the AI might be focused on filling your inbox with names and phone numbers, if those are highly qualified customers, you’ll just spend time and money calling dead end leads. That’s why we don’t recommend using AI ad campaigns!

If you think your website is a lead source for your business, you’re wrong!

A good website is a conversion tool, but it’s not technically a lead generator. Think about how someone ends up on your website…it’s not by chance! They either clicked an ad, did a Google search, or heard about your business from a friend.

Knowing how people got to your website in the first place is an extremely important piece of information every business owner needs to know.

As an entrepreneur have you ever had paralysis by analysis?

There are so many different ways to market your business, and that’s on top of all of your other responsibilities.

With so many ways to spend your time as a business owner, sometimes you feel like you’re spinning your wheels, so a simple principle that every business owner should follow is the “Pillow concept” which is that before your head hits the pillow at the end of the day, more people know about your business than they did before.

You can spend all of your time debating what the “best” method is, but there’s nothing better than action. Whether it’s going to a networking event, doing some cold outreach, or just planning out some social media posts…do something to market your business every day.

As a business, you only get one shot at a good first impression.

In the modern digital age, that might not always be a direct interaction with a customer, instead it may simply be what your Google Business page looks like when people do a Google search, or when they land on your website for the first time.

While the whole world is obsessing over things like which AI technologies to use, how to run Facebook ads, how to set up click funnels, etc…many people lose sight of something very simple like having good quality photos of your products or service on your website.

It’s not easier than ever to get cheap or even free good quality photos. Focus on mastering the fundamentals before worrying about fancy new technologies.

If you’re a business owner, I bet I can guess exactly what your social media feed looks like…

Well, at least which ads you’re being shown.

It’s probably ads promising to teach you about the latest get rich quick hack, which AI software can help you “make money while you sleep” or some course you have to take which will solve all of your business’s problems.

But the truth is, there is no one size fits all solution or advice for businesses. Not only are there big differences between industries, but the challenges of a start up business will be much different than an established company with a staff of 100 people, even if both of those businesses are in the same industry.

The point is: be very careful of people trying to sell boilerplate solutions.

Have you ever heard the saying…

“You can’t change what you don’t track”?

Imagine you got a job offer in a new state, you’ll have to find a new home to buy or apartment to rent, but there’s one catch: the new job can’t tell you for sure how much money you’re going to be making, and you don’t know what the cost of living in the new area will be?

Would you take that risk? Obviously not.

Yet so many small business owners have absolutely no idea what their true cost of doing business is, what the lifetime value of a customer is, their customer acquisition cost, etc…

When most business owners think of “knowing their numbers” they think about things like how much money is sitting in their bank account, or how much revenue they did last quarter. All good things to know, but you can’t stop there. Truly successful businesses are run by entrepreneurs who know the numbers of their business inside and out. It’s really the only way to make smart decisions with staffing, marketing, and so much more.

If you’re feeling uncertain about the current market and economy, or your business is struggling, start with a deep analysis of your numbers, that way it will be easier for you to cut the things that aren’t working, and double down on the things that are.

This ONE simple mistake could be costing your business THOUSANDS of dollars…

As a business owner you’re probably constantly bombarded with ads about the latest AI, online funnels, marketing strategies, and so much more, but truly successful businesses that are able to survive long term all have one thing in common: They are good at the fundamentals.

A simple thing that we see so many businesses struggle with is simply being friendly and professional on the phone. This happens in every industry, but some more than others (we’re looking at you trades).

Imagine if that one potential customer you were short with on the phone decided to go with someone else, not only did you lose out on that customer, but you also lost out on an opportunity for: another google review, another source of referrals, another word of mouth marketer in your area. Even if your product or service is inexpensive, ultimately that one mishandled conversation could potentially be worth thousands of dollars.

So when your business is struggling, and you’re feeling unsure of what to do next, do an audit of the basics. You may be surprised by how much of a difference it can make!
