DROUGHT UPDATE: As of April 30, 2026

Probably not a surprise, but things are not getting better. Much of the western half of the state is in an Extreme Drought and a spot in the panhandle is in an EXCEPTIONAL Drought. That's as bad as it gets.

Eastern Nebraska is slowly getting worse, too. We desperately need rain.

Conditions worsened in parts of the Southeast this week, with a small area of improvement in Alabama. The rest of the Lower 48 saw a mix of improvement and degradation. Hawaii and Alaska saw some improvement.

According to Texas Farm Bureau, "The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center (CPC) predicts a 62% chance El Niño will form between June and August and last through the end of the year. However, the timing and intensity are still uncertain, and some early predictions may be overstated."
