As part of our 50th Anniversary celebration, we are proud to shine a spotlight on California Transcribers and Educators for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CTEBVI) who has been a full member of BANA since 1997, with Tracy Gaines currently representing the organization on the BANA Board.
Established in 1959 as the California Transcribers and Resource Committee, the organization underwent several name changes, becoming the California Transcribers and Educators of the Visually Handicapped in 1964 and adopting its current name in 2009.
CTEBVI serves as an international network for braille transcribers, educators, parents, students, paraeducators, and advocates dedicated to supporting K-12 students who are blind or have low vision. The organization aims to standardize transcribing procedures for educational materials and provides workshops to enhance the skills of educators and transcribers. Additionally, CTEBVI empowers parents and students by offering a one-day Parent Institute as well as a Youth Institute in conjunction with the annual conference, typically held in April.
CTEBVI also offers the Katie Sibert scholarship to assist those needing financial support for conference attendance or educational resources. CTEBVI extends its heartfelt congratulations to BANA for 50 years of transformative support for individuals living with vision loss.
