My business, Rebecca Leigh Designs, is excited to be a sponsor for the 2025 Trailblazer Trot at Gudy Gaskill Elementary School! Not only am I sponsoring, I created the Golden Boot, which will go to the class that raises the most money. It was a fun project (my hand lettering needs work!). The kiddos at the school are Trailblazers, so a hiking boot was definitely necessary! I also wanted to make it reflect the logo (swipe to see) so the beads match the mountains and trees featured in the logo. I'm considering putting together a blog about my process since I couldn't find much info about making a hiking golden boot.

It is my son's first year fundraising and he is knocking it out of the park. If you want to help the school with weighted staffing and new playground equipment, please consider donating! https://app.99pledges.com/fund/trailblazer25/bo-maguire

Go Trailblazers!

Happy Fall Y'all! 🍂 Digitized Aspen leaves I colored in Colored Pencil last fall.

I've been a little MIA on this social profile! While I'm still designing (cause, you know, it is my job) I don't have much fun stuff to share. When I have time for making things for fun or class, it is mostly more in line with my new page . I'll still post here on here occasionally, but can't commit to too much while running my business and being present for my family.

This is cool.... my first time on a podcast!

I do help produce podcasts (now up to TWO!) but this is my first time in the hot seat! This is a fun conversation about all the things I do! Well.. maybe some of the things I do!

I'm so thankful for my journey and getting to dabble in many different things. My ability to produce/edit podcasts go back to my days at Piedmont University with radio classes and TV classes. Graphic design comes from my love of yearbooks. So on and so forth. Thank you for everyone who has supported me along the way!

Description: We spend this episode with the multi-faceted Rebecca Maguire. Rebecca has an eclectic marketing and business background which has led her into various roles with SORP, AORE, as well as others. Rebecca also moonlights as a graphic designer and provides branding and graphic creation services.

Some of you may know that I've been taking illustration classes with the Denver Botanic Gardens since last year. I have always viewed myself as a lifelong learner and I am always looking for ways to learn new tips, tricks, and fun techniques. I have been eyeing these classes for a few years and told myself "one day!" Well sometime in 2023 I was at the gardens and saw a class in action and just couldn't stop thinking about it. I had taken some of the lunch and learn sessions, but wanted real illustration classes. I took the plunge and signed up!

February 26, 2024 I started my first class with Alex Boersma and I've been hooked ever since. And yes, I remember the date because it was my birthday! Instead of going out for a celebratory dinner I was eating take out and soaking it all in. It kicked off a new year for me and my obsession with these classes.

Why am I writing this novel? Well I wanted to share some upcoming classes that are more digital based... and are offered online! You don't need to be in the Denver metro area and you can learn from experts like Alex and Cara. I took the Digitizing Your Artwork with Alex earlier this year and found it super helpful even though I work a lot with digital tools. I also would be obsessed with Cara's pattern classes if I didn't already know how to do it from my days in Pattern Camp... a decade ago!

There are so many opportunities to take SBAI classes online and dip your toes in... so what are you waiting for? And if you aren't into the analog stuff or want to learn how to make a pattern now is the perfect chance to learn!

Be an outsider | Cuchara, Colorado 🏔️ This was a design I had been working on years ago. I finally got to a point I loved it last year about this time and my dad saw it and said “there is next year’s race shirt!” So I basically was 10 months ahead of schedule getting this shirt ready. It has been a long year waiting to get my hands on the shirt. I love this design and phrase so much! I also had other versions with more colors and a tent, but that adds a bit to the cost of shirts, so kept it as simple as possible.

A few years back my dad resurrected the Cuchara Art Show. It has been such a pleasure to see and get to be a part of it . For the past few years I’ve had the idea of upgrading the badges to be more sustainable and long lasting. We have some lovely paintbrushes made by and artists used to get paint palettes. I really wanted to turn these into “collectible” badges, thinking back to my grandmothers collection of badges in her bathroom. I’ve been obsessed with idea and trying to figure out the most sustainable way to get it done… so earlier this year I bought a . Now I’m in the process of creating badges with magnetic backs! I’m also going to switch it up, palette for the helpers since we make it possible, like a palette of paint, and then paintbrushes for the artists cause they create the amazing work. 🎨 I will hand write the names on the badges for everyone ✍️ I have saved my paper badge from when I was an artist (photographer) many years ago. Hoping to add another badge to my collection soon for my botanical illustrations. Maybe someday!

Let’s talk about ownership in your business. 🏡

Social media is great for connection and visibility — but it's not something you truly own. If the algorithm changes (again), or your account gets suspended, where will your people go?

✨ Your email list is your digital home base. It’s where deeper conversations happen, where your audience chooses to hear from you, and where the algorithm can’t mute your voice.

I took a break from social media recently and my business didn’t fall apart. In fact — it got clearer.

💌 In my latest blog, I’m sharing what’s actually working in my small business, including:
→ Why email marketing outperforms social
→ A simple mindset shift for how you use these platforms
→ What to focus on instead of chasing the algorithm

I started this account nearly a decade ago to share creative challenges and connect with fellow designers—and I’m amazed at the community that’s formed since. As my business grows, so does this space. Swipe to see some of my shares starting all the way back in 2015! As my style and skills develop you'll see one of my first iPad/Procreate flowers (slide 4) and then a seed pack design I did in 2023.

This account has grown with me and I'm so thankful.
I want this account to be focused more on my business so I've created a second account to follow along with my art (more analog). You can find me at

I’ve been reflecting on the path to where I am now — just about seven years ago I started a new job. Four years ago it was my last day at that job. I’ve now been working one more year for myself than I did at that job. I loved that job - what I did, the people I worked with (mostly), and the members we served.

I thought I would stay a lot longer, but my mental health was suffering due to poor leadership and constant changes. In my three years I had roughly 5 different titles. I never knew what I was walking into each day. I made the best decision for me. I moved on. And while running my own business or finding clients can be difficult, I have never been happier. And I’m so grateful to continue to do similar work, with even better members and amazing leadership.

While in today’s political climate I often want to pick up and move, that is not realistic for my family. But what I have learned is, if
something isn’t working for you, leave. Still need to make money or get something done? Find another way. If you don’t understand something, research it (from validated resources).

Yes, easier said than done. Escaping a fascist administration or an abusive partner isn’t an easy fix. But, there are people who will help you. Help you move on to bigger and better things, whatever they may be.

IF you still can’t move - like leaving the country - fight to be the change. Rally the troops with those same people who are ready to help. Make the change, be the change.

We got this. Let’s make moves to get our country moving FORWARD and not backwards.

You’re not a tree, you can move.
