A quick passion project for a place I’ve been spending my Saturday mornings lately. Despite being around guns throughout my life, I never had much exposure to handguns, and definitely never spent time in a range before. I was nervous that at the ripe old age of 49 I may have missed that window. There’s so much info out there on the best firearm, the best technique, gun safety and all the jargon that comes with it, I was hesitant to event start. meet me where I was and had been great answering all my questions.

This one means a lot.

I’ve wanted to design something for Holbrook Elementary for years. It’s where I went to school. It’s where so many memories were made. And now, working with the Communication team, I finally had the chance.

Holbrook has always been known for its classic royal blue and white, but this refresh brings in a modern look and a bold new secondary color — something that feels strong, proud, and ready for another 60 years.

Grateful to get to pour a little heart into something that shaped mine.

My creative exercise for the last couple of weeks involves a Houston landmark that I’ve loved for over 40 years — Barbecue Inn. Open since 1946, it’s a true time capsule: the original lunch counter, mid-century light fixtures, and a waitstaff that’s been there for decades.

This place doesn’t need a rebrand — modernizing it would only dilute its charm. But there’s fun to be had leaning into its retro personality through some creative merch and messaging.

Logo Reveal: Victory Surfaces⁣
⁣This project started with a client sketch. A sword as the “T” in Victory. But through early conversations, we discovered something deeper.⁣

The team at Victory Surfaces wasn’t looking for clever. They were looking for conviction. Something that reflected the strength of their work—and their Christian values.⁣
⁣
The final mark is bold, grounded, and unmistakable. A V and crown? A king? A lion? A subtle nod to Christianity woven into every line.⁣

My most recent creative exercise from the last couple of weeks. Probably only second to our beloved Bucees, is the Texas supermarket franchise As hard as it is for me, a 7 year Randall’s employee through high school and college, I have to admit that HEB is an iconic Texas brand. With that in mind I didn’t want to stray too far from their established equity, bold, red, and ‘from here.’ I played around with some supporting icons that could be rotated into the brand depending on the messaging. What do you think?

Here’s an unchosen concept looking for a place to land. Selling predesigned logos has always seemed strange to me. It’s counter to all the thought that goes in brand development.
