The outfit you almost didn't wear is usually the right one.

Not because it photographs better. Because it's the one that feels most like you when no one is watching.

We see it happen before nearly every session. Someone stands in front of the mirror holding two options. One is safe, the one people expect. The other is a little more honest. A little closer to who they actually are right now, in this season, in this chapter.

The second one always wins on camera. Every time.

When we help someone prepare for a family portrait or a branding session, we don't hand them a checklist of colors to avoid. We ask a quieter question: what do you want your kids to recognize about you twenty years from now? What do you want a future client to feel the second they land on your website?

That's not styling. That's self-recognition. Photographs hold up over time when the person in them was telling the truth. The blouse your mom would pick isn't wrong, it's just not the story you're living right now.

So here's what we tell everyone. Pull both pieces off the hanger. Hold them up. Notice which one makes your shoulders drop.

Wear that one. 💛

Every family walks in with the same quiet hope: "Please let everyone cooperate for thirty minutes."

Then real life shows up.

The toddler discovers a pinecone and refuses to let it go. Dad is fixing someone's collar. Mom is whispering a bribe involving ice cream. The oldest is pretending none of this is happening.

And somewhere in the middle of that beautiful chaos, someone laughs. Someone leans in. Someone forgets the camera is there. 💛

That's the frame we send you months later. The one you didn't pose for. The one that looks exactly like your people, because it is.

The picture you imagined before the session almost never becomes your favorite. The favorite is usually the moment right after someone gave up on perfect.

So if you're waiting until the kids are older, or calmer, or listening better, we'd gently push back. This season, the loud one, the sticky one, the one where nobody sits still, is the one you'll want to remember most.

We'll handle the rest.

The families who feel most at ease in front of the camera? They prepared for it.

Not with posing practice. Not with a pep talk in the car on the way over.

It was the small conversations in the days before. About the park you always end up at on Sundays. About what everyone actually feels good wearing. About the version of your family you want to remember ten years from now.

A great session is built long before the shutter ever clicks. The image is just where all of that quiet preparation finally becomes visible. It's the reason a photo can hold not only what a moment looked like, but what it felt like to be together in it.

Here's the little bit of pre-session thinking we walk every family through, and why it quietly changes what shows up in your final gallery. Tell me in the comments: what's the one everyday thing you'd want to remember about your family ten years from now? 💛

People hire the person before they hire the service.

They meet your logo, but they remember your face. They scroll past your website, but they pause on the moment they can finally see who is behind the work.

For years, we have watched business owners here in Dallas build beautiful brands they still choose to hide behind. A clean logo. A carefully written bio. A stock photo sitting where a real portrait should be.

And then something shifts.

They step out from behind the frame. They let people see the one doing the work, making the promises, the one who will actually answer the email. That is the moment trust starts carrying the weight for them.

Branding photography was never really about photography. It is about being seen. It is about giving the people who are considering you enough of a real human to feel comfortable saying yes.

Your business does not need a bigger logo. It needs a face people can trust.

If you are ready to be seen as the person behind the work, we would love to have that conversation. 💛

The image families keep is never the posed one.

It's the pause before she walks down the aisle. The hand on the doorframe before she leaves the room. The look back over the shoulder when she thinks no one is watching.

Years later, when we sit with families and look through their galleries together, those are the frames they linger on. Not the wide shot of everyone smiling on cue. The quiet one. The in-between.

Because a season of life isn't defined by the milestone itself. It's defined by everything around it. The exhale before the ceremony. The glance across the kitchen. The way she rested her hand on the frame of a home she was about to leave behind, and looked back with a tenderness she didn't know she was giving.

That look only happens once. The woman standing in that doorway will never be exactly this woman again. Next year she'll be someone slightly different. So will her children. So will the light in that house.

Our job isn't to arrange people into something beautiful. It's to be present enough to notice when they already are. ✨

The moment before the moment is usually the one worth keeping.

Some love stories begin with grand gestures.

Others begin with a piece of gum in middle school.

What started as a childhood friendship grew into a love rooted in trust, family, and a shared vision for the future. It was such an honor to document this season for Cameron and his fiancée at The Dallas Scottish Rite Cathedral, one of Dallas' most iconic locations for timeless engagement portraits.

Their story is a beautiful reminder that the strongest relationships are often built on friendship first.

This Father's Day feels a little different.

A year ago, I was preparing for one of the biggest seasons of my life. Since then, I've become a husband, welcomed our daughter Leighton into the world, completed my first year as an Assistant Principal, and experienced firsthand just how quickly life can change.

Like most parents, I've found myself taking more photos than ever before. Not because they're perfect, but because I already know how much they'll mean someday.

The tiny moments. The milestones. The ordinary days that somehow become the memories we treasure most.

This past year reminded me why photography matters.

It's not about creating content. It's about preserving a story.

As I look through photos from our wedding, Leighton's first months, and the moments we've shared as a family, I'm reminded that the most meaningful luxuries in life are the moments we wish we could hold onto forever.

That's why I'm excited to share that LMG Imagery is officially booking again.

To everyone who has supported me, encouraged me, referred friends, or simply followed along on this journey—thank you.

I can't wait to help tell your story, too.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandfathers, and father figures celebrating today.

— Ryan
