Better.com's CEO, Vishal Garg, has further reinforced his reputation as being mean and insensitive by his widely-publicized mass-layoff of 900 employees via a Zoom video call. The ham-fisted, poorly-thought-out action brought an avalanche of negative media attention upon the company, resulting in creating terrible consumer sentiment, a slew of negative online reviews and social media mentions, and resignation of a number of executives within the company. Pursuing a better-laid course of action would have saved his company much of the negative sentiment, and listening to experienced professionals or consulting with outside experts would have further saved Garg from what was probably the worst gaffe of 2021.
A source told Insider Garg only increased it because he feared violating a law requiring 60 days' notice or pay when companies conduct mass layoffs.
