From potato chips to refrigerated trucks, the brilliance of Black innovation and creativity was on full display this Black History Month. We worked with 7-Eleven Franchising to highlight inventors whose work helped not only shape the world, but also played a part in making 7-Eleven what it is today. We’re still not over how beautiful and vibrant these original pieces came out!

We’re keeping Black History Month rolling with a refreshing creation from another brilliant Black mind.

Today we’re talking about Madeline M. Turner, whose invention of the juice press serves as the original blueprint which all modern juicers are based on. Her innovative extraction process created a comfortable and efficient way to get the juice from fruits and paved the way for the present-day juice industry that brings in $2.5 billion a year.

As you enjoy the fresh deliciousness from your local 7-Eleven there’s no doubt that the juice is worth the squeeze.

Oh Thank Heaven For Black Brilliance!

Whether it’s 1997 or 2024, Co-founder and Managing Partner Lalo Durán’s favorite TV spot from Apple still gives him the chills and ignites his spirit to create. Check it out and see if it inspires you to Think Different too.

As we continue our Black History Month celebration, we’re shining the spotlight on our next brilliant Black mind, Joseph Lee, the creator of the automatic bread maker!

As a passionate baker, inventor and entrepreneur, Lee created the automatic bread maker in 1894, completely revolutionizing the professional baking industry in the process as the machine was able to produce 60 pounds more bread from each barrel of flour than was possible by hand.

To this day, all modern bread mixers are able to trace their origins back to Lee’s invention. So next time you go to take a bite of a tasty hot dog from your favorite 7-Eleven, make sure to thank Joseph Lee for that delicious bun!

Karen, our Group Account Director, grew up with the best of both worlds by celebrating the holidays in the US and Colombia. She recalls an ad campaign that brightened up the holidays year after year no matter where she was. She even calls it the best ad campaign ever. Do you agree?

It’s Black History Month, and to celebrate we are lifting up a few of the brilliant Black minds whose inventions have played a role in making 7-Eleven what we are today.

First up, George Speck “Crum” (or his sister Catherine depending who you ask), the inventor(s) of the potato chip!

These salty snacks were claimed to be invented in 1853 at Moon’s Lake House in Saratoga Lake, NY after an unhappy customer sent his potatoes back for not being crispy enough. In a flash of what we now recognize as pure genius, George (or Catherine) sliced the potatoes extra thin and deep fried them, creating the first potato chip! And as we sit here enjoying a fresh bag of 7-Select Smoked Gouda chips, we can’t help but say…
