Who had the toughest championship run in NBA history? : r/NBATalk
The 2011 Dallas Mavericks' championship run is widely considered one of the toughest and most impressive in NBA history, defined by overcoming elite opponents without another All-Star teammate. Dirk Nowitzki led the Mavs past the Blazers, swept the defending champion Lakers, beat the rising OKC Thunder, and took down the Miami Heat "Big Three".

Ride" (from The Chronic) directly samples and reinterprets the iconic refrain from Parliament's "Mothership Connection (Star Child)". This lyrical and melodic lineage traces from 19th-century spirituals ("Swing Low, Sweet Chariot") through 1970s funk into 1990s hip-hop.

Kirk Lockhart about Music
Key Connections in the Musical Evolution:
The Origin (Spiritual): The phrase originates from the 19th-century African-American spiritual "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot," which served as a coded message for freedom via the Underground Railroad.
The Funk Transformation (Parliament): Parliament's 1975 album Mothership Connection (specifically "Mothership Connection (Star Child)") recontextualized this, changing the lyrics to "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot" to fit their Afrofuturist mythology.
The G-Funk Legacy (Dr. Dre): Dr. Dre sampled this specific Parliament line for his 1992 hit "Let Me Ride" (featuring Snoop Dogg), bridging the gap between 1970s funk and 1990s West Coast hip-hop.

The connection highlights how P-Funk's 1970s output heavily influenced the sound of 1990s West Coast hip-hop.
