Up next in our 'Every Day is a Celebration' series is a holiday that all ages are bound to enjoy. From nostalgic characters to epic new stories, Free Comic Book Day offers something for everyone!

Here's an inside look at the artist's inspiration for this illustration:

"A long-standing tradition in our family, FCBD is held on the first Saturday in May each year. Publishers print a wide variety of comic books, which are given out for free at most comic shops. Stop in on the 2nd this year! Our local shop allows a whopping 8 comics per guest. As a bonus bit of DIY fun, later we check out a Button Press Maker Kit from our local library, and create buttons from the pages we like best. We’ve also collaged them onto blank postcards to send to friends. Great crafting material since it’s free!"

Here's why artist Andy Kittles chose this holiday for a special tribute as part of our 'Every Day is a Celebration' series:

“My good friend Steve, a world-class professional sax player based in Atlanta, is depicted in this illustration. As a kid, I could hear him playing jazz, blues, and rock tunes on his horn four houses down the street from ours. He inspired me to take up the sax. I still enjoy playing it today.”
