Member Spotlight: Brooke Griffin 🧑‍🎨
This month, we are thrilled to feature Brooke Griffin, a Wright State University graduate, printmaker, and tattoo artist!
Brooke brings a unique blend of printmaking techniques and body art to the community. Here is a look inside her process and her favorite parts of being a DPC member:

Q+A with Brooke:
How did you first get into printmaking?
"I went to Wright State thinking I might major in painting. However, when I took a drawing class, the instructor (Kim Vito) suggested I consider printmaking classes based off of my work. I took a class and fell in love with relief printing!"

What’s your favorite printmaking method, and what do you love about it?
"I love relief printmaking, especially woodcut reductions. Lately, I have been working in single-layer linoleum prints and using the blocks as stencils for tattoos. The transition from drawing to print to tattoo is very cool and combines both of my primary art forms!"

What’s your favorite part of being in the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative?
"My favorite part of the cooperative is the community and the experience of the other artists. I always learn so much from them, and there is such a wealth of knowledge in our members."

Come one, come all to our OPEN HOUSE event!
On Saturday, September 12th from noon to 4:00 pm we will have demonstrations, hands-on printmaking activities, and studio tours. Do you ever wonder what goes in to making a print? Come see five different techniques happening in one shared space! We're excited to welcome you.

JULY 🎨 Member Spotlight: Haley Slone 🖼️

Meet Haley Slone, a printmaker and oil painter whose work captures incredible detail and personality! Beyond her printmaking, Haley takes commissions for custom wedding paintings, murals, portraits, and more.

**Q&A with Haley Slone**

**Q. How did you get into printmaking?**

**A.** In middle school, we had a project in art class to carve and print a lino block. It was my favorite project and I worked extra hard carving tiny details for days. I didn't think about printmaking again until college when I was forced to take it for my painting degree and I fell right back in love with it. I ended up with a double concentration in both Painting and Printmaking because I couldn't stop taking all the printmaking classes!

**Q. What's your favorite type of printmaking to do and why?**

**A.** I recently have been really gravitating toward relief printing again-- wood block, lino, etc. There was a while where I felt that copper engraving was my favorite, but I've been really enjoying carving lately so much.

**Q. What's your favorite part about being a member of the Dayton Printmakers Cooperative?**

**A.** I love getting together with like-minded people and participating in shows and sales with the group. Printmakers are very interesting and innovative personalities; there's a real comeraderie that comes with being part of this group that I don't feel I could find anywhere else.

**Q. Is there anything else you'd like to share?**

**A.** Actually, yes! I'm currently having a big sale on small prints, and getting close to hitting my goal this week! I have hand-printed 5x7" frogs, trees, and beaches for sale for $10 each right now. You can also find my other work on my website, (www.haleyslone.com)

Artist Spotlight: Maria McGinnis
This month, we are thrilled to feature Maria McGinnis, a versatile printmaker (and painter) whose work and life story are deeply intertwined with the concepts of resilience and family. Maria's recent work will be featured in the Project Space at High Street Gallery on June 12 from 6-8 pm-- mark your calendars and be sure to check it out!

A bit about Maria:

Q:How did you first get into printmaking?

Maria: I graduated from Wright State University in 1995 with three concentrations for my BFA: Printmaking, Painting, and Drawing. I've been focused mostly on painting and drawing since graduation.

Q:What's your favorite printmaking method, and what attracts you to it?

Maria: I've focused on woodcuts recently, with layers and multiple blocks. I'm working with colors and layers. I do love intaglio, too. I'm still experimenting!

Q: What's your favorite part about being a member of the Dayton Printmaker's Cooperative?

Maria: I love being a member because it's such a special group with a rich historical background. I really enjoy working together with other printmakers during workshops and events.

Our "ArtsStart" program, Building and Nurturing Community through Printmaking", has completed. The Dayton Printmakers Cooperative had the pleasure of hosting five workshops encompaassing intaglio, relief, collagraph, and letterpress. It has been a wonderful year full of beautiful prints, collaboration, and building community. THANK YOU to the Ohio Arts Council.
