Our Story
Our rich history dates back to the 1950’s, when Hy Shumsky and his wife, Elsie, founded Shumsky with $50.00, a few catalogs, a card table and two chairs in a 10 foot square room. Hy believed he should be involved with every order from start to finish – typing and billing orders, collecting payment and delivering product.
For 67 years we’ve called Dayton, OH our home, providing marketing solutions via promotional products and employee engagement programs that promote company image, enhance employee performance, and achieve business objectives.
Over the years Shumsky has evolved into much more than a promotional product company, bringing us to where we are today. At the onset of COVID-19, we realized we had a role in supporting our customers with the vital products they needed to protect themselves and others during this unprecedented time. It was the right move to support the community at large in slowing down the spread by making these products available. Leveraging our existing FDA registered and our trusted global supply chain, we were able to pivot from primarily selling promotional products to a heavy focus on face masks, hospital gowns, and hand sanitizers. We believe that this temporary transition to focus on PPE was not only our responsibility as a trusted source, but our purpose, as we continue to help and serve our community and beyond. Shumsky is proud to have provided over 1.1 million masks, over 500K gowns, and over 200K of other PPE items (hand sanitizers, face shields, etc.) to local and national businesses.
