Disaster Response Team provided critical and invaluable assistance to the City of Lake Geneva and surrounding communities following the July 3 storm.

DRT is working to set-up a local branch in Walworth County, and is holding an information meeting from 12-1 p.m. August 22 Walworth County Department of Health and Human Services Auditorium in Elkhorn. Details are provided below. There is also an option to attend virtually.

Any interested parties are asked to attend the meeting and learn more about how they can help communities in Walworth County respond and recover following a disaster.

• The Elkhorn Legion, VFW, and Walworth County Sheriff’s Color Guard will present the colors, with police chiefs and Civil Air Patrol unveiling a giant American flag at center field.

The Perseids are coming, and this year promises to be a spectacular show! Peaking tonight after midnight, you can expect up to 100 Perseid meteors per hour under ideal viewing conditions. Better yet? The Perseids coincide with a new Moon this year, meaning there will be less moonlight to wash out fainter meteors!

The Perseids are best viewed between midnight and dawn. The meteors will appear to radiate from the constellation Perseus but can come into view anywhere in the sky. So head outside, give your eyes 15-30 minutes to adjust to the darkness, face East, and enjoy one of nature's finest light shows!
