Hello my name is Cheryl! I am a Licensed Marriage Family and Child Therapist with nearly 30 years of clinical private practice in rural N. California. Through decades of study I recognized the immense value of developing healthy emotional behaviors in childhood. I believe these habits and skills can be easily learned and taught with great benefit to individuals and communities. That’s why I started Emotion Wise!

Over the course of my career, I have coached children, adolescents, and adults using emotion-based skills, both individually and in groups. During the pandemic, I worked closely with my local school district, providing support and teaching these tools to staff and parents.

Since then, I have been working to create resources for therapists, school counselors, and others supporting youth in an emotional capacity. One of my proudest creations is Maimou’s Island: The Active Feelings Game, which I created for use in private practice decades ago. This game is different from many other sit-down therapy games because it gets you and your clients moving, while learning about emotions! Over the last two years, I have been working with my niece Elizabeth, a graphic designer at Ainslee Studios, to bring Maimou’s Island to life so that others can use it to help the youth they serve! Emotion Wise began in 2020 when founder Cheryl Simons (MA, MFT), who has 30 years of experience as a children's and family therapist, stepped up to the plate to provide resources and education to her local school district around anxiety management and mindfulness. So proud to work with Namaste Solar on their Public Benefit Report! What a great company. They are doing good work, helping out in the community, and living their values. This was fun to design, and came out great if I do say so myself! 😁

some work I did for Judsons Art Outfitters last fall - this is one of their ads I worked on. I spent 6 months running their social media, email marketing, and updating package design and branding before I moved to Denver. I set them up with social media management systems as well. What a great family, and local Colorado business to support!

to this branding project I did for a realtor, Josh Jackson, in 2020! This project included a set of custom notecards featuring images of the Boulder area where Josh works, letterhead, and a variety of social media graphics and banners (of course!). For his logo, I focused on using typography to turn his initials into a recognizable icon with a cracked door welcoming you to your new home. The notecards were also especially fun as we created one for each season, so Josh could rotate through card designs seasonally for thank yous and other notes to his clients throughout the year.

I was very happy to help Namaste Solar update their graphics for this year's fundraiser supporting Colorado families with energy bill assistance. This fundraiser is one reason among many why I'm proud to work with Namaste Solar! Check out their fundraiser and donate if you're able.

Next week is the launch of our third annual Keep the Lights on Colorado campaign! We are once again partnering with Energy Outreach Colorado to support Colorado families by providing community solar subscriptions and emergency bill assistance. I'm excited and honored to be a judge at the AIGA Colorado Design Slam at Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design (RMCAD) on Thursday!

Design Slam is a fun, exciting, creative problem-solving competition for art and design students. Design students from regional schools will compete head-to-head to solve visual problems in front of an audience. The competition will have four challenges and a final round to determine the champ.
