Some productions are at their best when the audience never sees how complicated they actually are.

During this past Super Bowl week in San Francisco, the BMH team supported the San Francisco 49ers’ sold-out Night of Champions event at the historic Orpheum Theatre. This one focused on the legends of the 1989 San Francisco 49ers, with Chris Berman moderating a conversation featuring Ronnie Lott, Harris Barton, Joe Montana, John Taylor, Eric Wright, and Tom Rathman.

We built out a five-camera multicam system with two manned wing cameras, a headhunter camera, a locked-off wide, and a roaming camera for audience reactions, cutaways, and coordinated moments with high-profile attendees throughout the night.

We live switched the show, building a line cut for later use while also sending that feed to an off-site editor. As moments happened in the room, an editor was pulling segments and building social posts that went live during the event itself. Moments would happen on stage and, minutes later, they were already out in the world while they were still relevant.
At the same time, we were running the in-room screen experience in close coordination with the writers and showrunners at Omaha Productions, triggering more than 40 video and still assets on cue as the conversation unfolded live.

Beyond the show itself, we also supported the Omaha team with a VIP fan experience just a few hours before doors opened, while capturing marketing material for a sizzle video to promote future Night of Champions events.

Lots of moving parts behind the scenes ont his one! Weeks of pre-production, an in-person scout, multiple truckloads of gear into a downtown San Francisco venue, a mix of union and non-union crew, stagehand workflows, VIP logistics, live social delivery, and the added pressure of pulling it all off during one of the busiest weeks of the year in sports.

And the show went off without a hitch! That’s the part of live production we love the most. When the prep, the crew, the gear, and the pressure all come together, and the audience truly connects with the experience.

We are really proud of the team we had on this one and are grateful for the trust we were given to help bring this to life.

Original content series on 16mm film.

The BMH team is currently in production on an exciting original series directed and developed by Riley Clinton called "KEEP GOING". The series features three vignettes with NFL legends, exploring pivotal career-defining moments and the experiences that shaped them.

We recently wrapped production in Brooklyn on the first of the vignettes featuring Allen Robinson II. It's always such a treat to have the resources to bring in the tools to capture motivated and narratively supported camera movement and texture. Incorporating a Fisher dolly, steadicam, and an Arriflex 416 16mm camera to shoot alongside our Alexa Mini LF and an Alexa 35 helped create some gorgeous imagery to support Allen's inspiring story.

There is something really rewarding about working with real film stock. With only about 11 minutes of recording time per 400 ft. roll, 16mm forces a different level of focus. You rehearse with more purpose. You roll with more intention. Every shot has to earn its place.

That pressure is part of what makes the medium so exciting, and it is also where BMH has always done some of our best work. Sticking the landing under pressure is what we’ve come to be known for.

Excited to share more from "KEEP GOING" (and our other projects) as the series continues to take shape.
