Mother’s Day started out really nice this year. I decided to pick somewhere different for lunch, so we all went to El Magey. The food was great, and I truly enjoyed spending time with my family. It felt like the kind of day that reminds you how important those simple moments together really are.
After lunch, we stopped by Walmart. As we were getting out of the car, one of the kids noticed a cell phone sitting in the shopping buggy. We immediately brought it inside to customer service. The timing could not have been more perfect — just as I handed the phone over, it started ringing. The owner was already on the way back to get it. It honestly felt really good knowing we helped someone get something important back.
From there, we headed to Burlington to browse around for a bit. We walked through the whole store, just shopping and looking around. My husband found a pair of Saints Nike tennis shoes and wanted me to try them on. Of course, the first size didn’t fit, so I went searching and finally found the right size. Success! I was excited because they were perfect for game days.
We checked out and headed to the car feeling pretty good about the day. But then, just a few minutes later, my heart sank. I realized I had left my purse back in the shoe section where I had tried on the shoes. From the time I walked away from it until I noticed it missing had only been maybe three to five minutes.
When I got back to it, someone had already gone through my purse and stolen almost $200 cash. What made it even crazier was they left everything else — my phone, credit cards, medications, and earbuds. They only took the money.
I did call the sheriff’s office and filed a report and all that jazz. I honestly don’t expect much to come from it, but I did what I was supposed to do. It just really ruined the moment and made me sad. Earlier in the day, we had done the right thing by turning in someone else’s lost phone without hesitation. Then later that same day, someone chose to take from us the second they had the chance. It’s disappointing to see how some people are nowadays.
Still, I’m trying to focus on the good parts of the day — the laughs with family, the good food, and the reminder that kindness still matters, even if not everyone chooses it.
So if anyone would like to help support me a little after today’s unexpected loss, I would truly appreciate it by purchasing one of my new shirt designs at . Every little bit helps, and your support means more than you know. ❤️ Designs By Dawn 178
