Detroit Location & History: Developed by Edmund Brush in the 1850s, the area featured large lots and wide, tree-lined avenues.
The "Little Paris" Era: In the 1880s, it was the epicenter of Detroit wealth, boasting elaborate, unique mansions built by architects for elite residents.
Decline: Starting around 1910-1920, wealthy residents moved to newer suburbs like Grosse Pointe as automobiles changed living patterns. The homes became boarding houses, leading to neglect, demolition, and the area becoming a{"Link": "high-crime area"} by the 1950s-1980s.

The day that marked the formal end of the association between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali was May 17, 1964.
This date is significant for several key reasons:
Final Encounter: On May 17, 1964, the two men had a brief and tense meeting outside the Ambassador Hotel in Accra, Ghana. Malcolm X, who had recently split from the Nation of Islam (NOI), was on a tour of Africa and the Middle East. Ali was also touring Africa following his heavyweight championship victory.
The Rift: During this encounter, Malcolm X greeted Ali, but Ali, maintaining his loyalty to the Nation of Islam and its leader Elijah Muhammad, rebuffed him. Ali famously told Malcolm, "Brother, I still love you, but you shouldn't have left the Honorable Elijah Muhammad". This interaction effectively ended their friendship and professional association.
Name Changes:
Malcolm X: By this time, Malcolm had already adopted his new Sunni Muslim name, El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz, following his pilgrimage to Mecca in April 1964.
Muhammad Ali: Earlier that year, on March 6, 1964, Elijah Muhammad had officially announced that Cassius Clay would be renamed Muhammad Ali.
Ali later expressed deep regret for this split, calling his rejection of Malcolm X one of the greatest mistakes of his life.

The close association between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali effectively ended in March 1964, following a series of events that forced Ali to choose between his mentor and the leadership of the Nation of Islam (NOI).
Timeline of the Split
February 25–26, 1964: Malcolm X was in Ali's corner (then Cassius Clay) when he defeated Sonny Liston to become the heavyweight champion. They celebrated together that night at the Hampton House in Miami.
March 6, 1964: Elijah Muhammad officially gave the boxer the name "Muhammad Ali". During this announcement, Elijah Muhammad reportedly pressured Ali to distance himself from Malcolm X, who had been suspended from the NOI for his "chickens coming home to roost" comment regarding the JFK assassination and for uncovering Elijah's personal scandals.
March 8, 1964: Malcolm X publicly announced his separation from the Nation of Islam. When Malcolm reached out to Ali to join his new movement, Ali remained loyal to the NOI and rejected him.
The Final Encounter in Accra
The two men saw each other for the last time in May 1964 in Accra, Ghana, while both were traveling in Africa.
The Meeting: Malcolm spotted Ali outside the Ambassador Hotel and called out, "Brother Muhammad!".
The Rejection: Ali, accompanied by Elijah Muhammad’s son, remained stone-faced and told Malcolm, "Brother Malcolm, you shouldn't have crossed the Honorable Elijah Muhammad," before walking away.
Ali later described turning his back on Malcolm as one of the "mistakes that I regret most in my life," stating that he wished he could have told Malcolm he was sorry. Malcolm X was assassinated less than a year after their final encounter, on February 21, 1965.
