Hey hey mamas AND aunties! I’m here with your weekly hump day design tips post (I’m open to more creative names btw)

This week we’re looking at color mistakes. There are quite a few but I’m sharing three this week and more next week.

I have a love hate relationship with color. I love ALLLL the colors but I have a hard time committing to them in a semi permanent application. That’s not the case with websites —it’s super easy to change colors and easy to go overboard.

It’s important to reel it in to make sure your site it’s user friendly and accessible for ALL users including those with disabilities.

Here’s the mistake rundown

✅1. Using too many colors

✅2. Poor color contrast (use contrast checker tools like colourcontrast.cc)

✅3. Using all the same color

Let me know what you think about this week’s post in the comments. I’ll be back with more so be sure to turn on notifications!

Mamas! We’re half way through the work week (Not sure what that means since we’re on duty all the time) Here’s another 🐪 day design in design from yours truly.

Over the next 3 weeks I’m sharing common web design tips non-designers make and how to fix them.

Fortunately when using Squarespace some of these issues can be because of the fail proof way the builder is set up, but be on the lookout for these mistakes. Wait, let me go check my site 😅

Has your website fallen victim to any of these mistakes? They’re fixable.

Would you rather A) have a resource to help you fix these problems yourself or B) hire someone to fix them for you

Type A or B in the comments below so I can learn which route is most popular with my mama crew!

The eyes see it, the heart wants it.

Combine those in your business and you’re generating revenue.

This week I’m sharing the second part to creating your own unique brand. Last week was about reaching the heart by creating connection through vision, action, and story.

Now it’s time to visualize it through consistent visuals. I cannot stress this enough. This can be difficult to do without your most important visual asset—a style guide/brand guidelines.

Here’s a quick story on why visual consistency is so important.

One day I was driving past a new restaurant I wanted to try. I noted the name and said I’d look it up once I got to my destination. I get online and look them up; the logo and colors on the site are completely different from what’s on their store front signage. This led to second guessing since there was another restaurant with a similar name. The only way I was able to verify the site I was on was in fact the restaurant I passed was knowing the relative location.

Moral of the story: stay as consistent as possible so you’re not confusing your customers…and losing revenue. A poor visual identity costs you more than you think.

Did the IG/FB outage affect your business? If your business is dependent solely on SM that might have been a wake up call to diversify. But how? Next week I’m talking websites!

Your 🐪 day feed just got a little bit bright (I hope)

As promised, this week I’m sharing the first of a 2 part series covering the essential elements of a unique brand.

All magnetic brands share these 3 things in common

✔️Vision (long range huge impact)

✔️Action (steps to go from idea to sharing the thing with the world)

✔️Story (combining the vision and action in an engaging relatable way

Surprise surprise. Not really. These are the hidden motivators that ooze out in customer service and marketing campaigns that make people stay or leave.

If you have this part of your brand down then you’re half way there. Next week I’ll share the second half.

It’s Friday nite mamas! How ya doin? Are you still feelin yourself (insert Beyoncé lyrics) after having kids?

I know for me personally my body changed so much plus all the sleep deprivation and just being busy (especially mentally) I end up too exhausted to even feel remotely sexy.

On the plus side, over the last year I lost 30 lbs which had me feeling really good when I looked in the mirror (I put my swim suits on this summmmer) but I still don’t feel like I’m channeling my inner Eartha Kitt just yet😂

I suppose it takes time to bring sexy back. How has it been for you: Has having kids amped up your inner fire or turned it down? If you’re brave share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s chat mamas

Shoutout to my sister for my lovely socks ❤️

Hello Monday! Even though it’s almost a wrap I’m really excited about a new project I started today.

Can I also admit that I’m super nervous because I want this project to come out as close to the vision I have in my mind for bringing together the ways my client wants to be seen.

On another Note…One of the unexpected benefits of working with real dedicated entrepreneurs is the interchange of encouragement and lifting up during stressful times. I strive to be understanding and the way that I set my business up to run, taking a limited number of projects at a time, means that I can be more attentive and focused on giving my clients the best.

Stop wondering if we’d be a good fit and click the link in bio or DM me to book a 20 minute call to see if we can turn our good vibes into an dynamic brand and web experience!

HEY YA’LL HEY! It’s been quite some time since I posted but I’ve connected with a lot of new faces around here so it’s time for a reintroduction.

I’m Kaila (pronounced Kyla)

✨Proud boy mom to Nato (Paw Patrol, Legos, and picky eating, except all the fruits & sugary treats are the norm)
✨Special education teacher turned designer after a 10 year hiatus shelving my creative passion
✨An introvert so I like to have meaningful connections with people, small talk scares me 😂
✨First tried my hand as a entrepreneur selling hand painted canvas clutches on Etsy (fail) followed by fashion blogging (fail too)
✨Support motherhood in the workplace whether that’s working for yourself or corporate
✨Love food, walks, sips, summer, peonies, sun & sand (I’m long overdue for a beach day)

Want to know more about me? Get answers to your most pressing and stressing brand, graphic, or web design issues? Talk about or ? Shoot me a DM!

P.S. I’ve got new photos! I had an amazing time working with the talented Alisha Nicole, ever the camera shy girl, she made me love the way I showed up on camera. She specializes in personal brand photography and does not disappoint.

How it started VS How it's going! 𝗚𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵!

I usually have a hard time seeing what I've accomplished but this comparison shows me just how much I've leveled up my design game over the last 6 years.

In 2018, while on maternity leave I first stuck my big toe in the UX (user experience) design waters. I had no idea what I was doing or what tools I needed. But I took a free course then went on to do (terrible work) just excited about these new possibilities. From that point on I became extremely serious about the design craft taking more classes, courses, reading books, studying other designers, and most important, practicing. This has all been pretty much on my own while fighting imposter syndrome.

This landing page took about 2.5 hours to design from the initial concept including (naming, research, creative direction, defining requirements, information architecture, sketching, wireframing, asset sourcing, and design), development would be another few hours.

So here I am sharing the skills I've worked so hard to build up with the world able to recognize my worth. There's still plenty more for me to learn but I'm proud of myself (pats self on back)!

Lesson: Celebrate your growth and dedication to your craft. 💕
